How can I wipe out my debt without filing bankruptcy when I can hardly ever find work?

I am a singer/songwriter and webmistress. As such, sometimes I earn money - but more often than not I have no work. I wouldn't mind so much without the looming debts... how can I knock them off?

It can be extremely difficult to budget when your income is irregular.

You might try visiting a certified consumer credit counselor (be careful, there are a lot of scams out there - if anybody is suggesting something that sounds too good to be true, it probably is a scam) to see if it is possible to construct a budget on which you can pay down your debts. You also might consider looking for some kind of steady employment, even if only part time, to try to pay off those debts - although this is admittedly a lousy economy in which to try to find work.

One thing to ask yourself seriously is: are you able to repay your debts or not. If there really is no way that you can possibly repay them, then schedule an appointment with a bankruptcy attorney. If you are going to have to file bankruptcy anyway, might as well do it sooner rather than later so you can get it over with and move on.
