I know this might sound wired since im a girl, but i know a thing or two because i have 3 little brothers. I would find one of those bikes that come with pegs, those are usually the cheapest, my brother got his for 85$ @ Walmart they look decent && they come in all types of colors with logo's on them to fit what you want.

Well, there are so many options, just like cars, and alot of it has to do with personal preference: what type of rider you are and what type of cycling you plan to do. You may want to do a little research.

One option would be to do a little research on your own: go to sporting goods stores, specialty bike shops and bend the ear of the sales people, but also look around for other customers that look like experienced cyclists and ask them what they look for in a good bike and why. Compare this to your needs.

You could also try-out a few different models from a Bike Rental Shop. Take them out for a test-spin for a day and see if it is appropriate for you.

Another research option I've found is Consumer Reports. It is the best place to research for many things including bikes, many different price categories included*.

C.R.s explain the differences between various brands bikes and their various components and have unbiased market research ratings Things like different types bikes: racing, mountain, etc.; differnt types of tires, brake systems and gears, etc. as well as what makes a bike comfortable: like seats and being light weight, plus other things you may not even have coincided, etc.

*honestly, 100 bucks sounds a little low for a decent bike. I'm sure you could pick one up at a low end store, and it would probably be ok if you're just going to be riding a couple times a year with the kids on a low grade, well paved path... but if you're serious about taking up cycling and want to make a serious, lasting, good-quality investment you may want to consider spending a little extra dough. I've found $400 is about average for a decent average bike. (They get much more expensive, fast, believe me; but, don't cringe, read on...)

Another option is to buy second-hand. In this case you may be able to pick-up a descent used bike for alot cheaper. Try 2nd hand stores, pawn shops, and also bike rental shops (they may have older models for sale). Some new bike shops also sell old bikes that they recieved as trade-ins. Some local libraries have back issues of Consumer Reports, so you can see what their ratings were/are.

You could look on craigs list, They always have mediocre prices, if not dirt cheap.
