What's the worst background noise you have heard while speaking to someone on the phone?

I was on the phone last night to someone, and I heard this massive burp. I still heard it, even though I was on the other end of the phone. I thought the person who I was speaking to had no windows left..

People speaking Spanish or Mexican music. I don't consider that bad. It's just that if I want to listen to Mexican music I would prefer to turn on the radio. It's always there though no matter who I talk to. The only Spanish people I know are the people who live around me. What I need is a filter for my phone, but I don't know where to find one. Oh well.

I think it can lead to a feeling of isolation, as just missing the general cacophony of noise that you hear in say, a market place, or in the street can make you feel left out and not part of everything thats going on. Also you may feel that you are winding people up, as you have to ask for repetitions many times, people might just give up. Is this for your GCSE English speaking and listening exam ? For mine we had to put forward and argue a case for why our person that has life threatening illness should and deserves the one space available for treatment Good luck- hoped this helped :-D

Damn! My sister always does that while I'm on the phone! I hate that! So rude! But I'm going to have to go with somebody driving and listening to the radio. My friend that does this to me, her door ajar alarm is stuck on, so she turns the radio up loud to tune it out, and calls me sometimes to stay awake on her drive home from work. Its so annoying.

I have to agree with some of the others too, children whining, and dogs barking too! Ugh!

Speaking with a friend, and in the back ground someone else talking about their sex experience.

On my phone sometimes I can hear my neighbors talking, the lines cross or something.

    White noise... too

Same as you, my friend's son belched really loudly then called to his mum "MUUUUUUUM, someone on the phone for ya!!" Then walked off farting. Charming.

Prop when they are in a car with the windows down and music playing while they are talking to someone in the passenger seat.
