Memoirs of A Geisha by Arthur Golden. it has plenty symbolism of elements, insects, etc, and you can analyze the tradition and culture described in it which apparently were not very accurately written by Golden. A comparison from the perspective of Mineko Iwasaki's "Geisha, A Life" would be even better. She's the geisha Arthur Golden interviewed and based his research on. Enjoy!

old man in the sea is a metaphor the whole dang thing is a metaphor. and it is short for those in time cramped lives. it is under 150 pages or around that. it might be on spark notes but you don't really need to use them. otherwise i would recommend just walking into a library and taking out a lesser known book by a classic writer.
