Trust letter from an Estate Attorney?

A relative recently passed away. I just received a Letter of Trust from the probate court. What does this mean to me? Will I be getting some kind of an inheritance or what exactly. I am in Illinois, he was a very prominent Medical doctor in California. He was survived by his wife, no children, also he was an only child and his parents are also deceased

The definition of the Letter of Trust that I found is this:

Written authority granted by court to a trustee to act on behalf of a trust in an estate.

So this is a copy of a letter of authorization from the Court. As a relative, you needed to be advised that the Attorney was granted this permission / authorization by the Court. Whether it means you inherit probably does not apply. Simply contact the Estate Attorney and ask him what's up.
