will a usb harddrive be useable for ps3?

i have a ps3 and im running out of space i know i can add a aditional laptop hardrive but i dont have one. but i do have a 200 gig western digital usb external harddrive will this serve the same purpose

    Chaz, a word of warning.

    Yes if you format the drive to FAT32 using a PC, you can plug it into your PS3 and save stuff to it. But the read/write rates will be quite slow as its an external drive. And you wont be able to copy games/demos to it, only your personal files like music, videos and pictures.

    I think getting a laptop drive to replace the PS3 internal one will be better in the long run for you.

    ya that will work your just gonna need to change the format on the comp and you got yourself some more space
