Well i don't have any pets but i am getting a dog soon and that'll be a very important decision i'll have to make. I'll find it very hard to feed them meat but my parents will probably disagree with my argument as they're meat eaters and will want to feed it meat. I suppose vegetarianism was my choice and i don't want to deprive the dog of meat but on the other hand, i really think everything has the right to life. Gah! You've got me thinking again now.

I feed my cats meat based foods as it is scientifically shown that plant and grain based diets are harmful to cats. As human beings are made to eat plants, cats and other animals simply eat meat as part of their nature. Dogs, however can thrive successfully on a vegetarian or even vegan diet.

Actually, this is a big issue I am currently going through.

Yes, I feed my dogs and my ferrets processed meat, however, compare our teeth and internal organs to that of these animals, THEY are designed to eat meat, and while a dog can live healthily on a vegetarian diet, its not suitable for active dogs (mine all participate in flyball and go on daily walks and runs).

I have actually been considering switching my ferrets over to a raw diet, ferrets are obligated carnivores, they, like cats, have trouble digesting any plant based material.

If anyone has any comments or facts/information about raw feeding ferrets, please email it to me, or if you simply want to give your opinion that would be great.

I've been a vegetarian for 9 years, vegan for 2 years, and while I am entirely against eating any thing that was once alive, I am not going to put my pets life at risk for my beliefs, a ferret WILL die from a plant based diet.

    Thanks!

I feed my cats ordinary cat food. I choose not to eat meat but, in the same way that I don't expect others to share my views, I wouldn't impose my choices on my girls. Although, strangely enough, they only like the fish ones and just will not touch the meat varieties no matter which ones I try!

  • Our dogs are vego but they occassionally get a bone for their teeth and digestive tract. Our cats aren't but we only feed them fish and seafood based catfood. Unfortunately cats cannot live on a vegetarian diet but we don't want to support factory farming of chickens, cows etc so they get seafood (which we do feel bad about too but we have to feed them something!) All of our animals are rescued animals and needed homes. We would never buy an animal from a pet store or a breeder as this just adds to the problem of unwanted animals, and more animals having to die for petfood etc etc.

I feed my dog dry dog food which contains meat products plus the same vegetarian food I eat.

I feed my cat meat. Every type of cat food I've ever seen is meat or contains meat. Also animals require different diets than humans so sometimes you have to give them meat.

My dog does eat meat. Pets often have different dietary needs than humans, and it is sometimes hard for us to tell if their needs are being met. That is why my family decided to keep my dog on a regular dog food diet - we don't want to hurt her or for her to go hungry.

Yes because I don't think it is fair not to just because I have made the choice that I won't.

Cats also need meat to be healthy.
