Remember, not everyone who speaks english can spell it as well. Not because you were born in a first world country automatically makes you educated too.

Here is a trivia for you to ponder. Thirty Seven per cent of Americans CANNOT find the USA on the map of the USA!

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steven-shehori/poll-...

During a Miss Teen USA Pageant, the question was "Why can't one fifth of Americans find America on a map?"

The answer of Miss Teen South Carolina was -

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some ... people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, I believe that our, ah, education like such as in South Africa, and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for."

So do not worry if they can't spell Philippines. (Imagine if it was Czekoslovakia?) For as long as they are good folks, we will welcome them with open arms. I am not a good speller as well, but what the heck? Thanks for the add Agni.

Maybe because theist is pronounced differently to atheist. The atheist makes the ei sound like "e" instead of "a" but I'm not totally confident that that is the reason. Perhaps it is true, as creatrix suggests, that atheists are for some reason better spellers. If it were it would certainly result in atheist being spelt incorrectly more often as atheists use the word theist most often while everyone uses the word atheist.

    How Do You Spell Foreigners

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/axQdW

As contrarians, you insist on violating the i before e except after c rule. bastards. ;-) Theist is generally spelled corectly because t's atheists who use it. Most theists use the actual flavor of theism to describe themselves, IE, Christian or Muslim. Most atheists get the etymology of the word and can therefore spell it correctly.

In English, at least, the name "Philip" can also be spelled "Phillip" and (occasionally) "Philipp" or "Phillipp". So please excuse us if we are sometimes confused about the Philippines (gosh, I got it right!).

Most Americans don't care about other countries. They are born, raise, live, and die in America. Typically, they rarely leave the state they were born in. Not to mention the Philippines do not come up often in the average Americans day to day life. So they rarely need to spell it. Ask them to spell China, Japan, Mexico, Iraq, or some other county that is more in the loop. With that in mind, there are a couple different ways Philippines could be spelled, so they pick one and go for it. Also it appears the pot is calling the kettle black here. Your country is not exactly know for it incredible spelling and grammar either. BTW who ever said 1/5 of Americans cant find America on the map, did you know that 99% of all statistics are made up on the spot and completely false? Kinda like the one I just made up too.

well I just can speak for Americans. Their school system is that far behind and comparable with Rwanda. So we cannot accept that they are more than: ugly, obese, balt, arrogant, smelly school drop outs

Because Americans (specifically people from United States) only learn about there own country. I'm from Canada and our borders are shared and they don't even know much about us.

As for me a Canadian I knew how to spell it because we live back and forth from the Philippines and Canada but maybe it's because of the accent used by Filipino's? and the switching of P's and F's? Maybe it's confusing and how "people" type things are referred to as Filipino's and not Philippino's? Usually it's Canada and Canadian, or America and American, India and Indian?

Yes, they always commit the mistake of putting double "L" and just one "P" like in Phillipines. I think they are just confused. When I was still young, I was taught to remember 2 mnemonics so I do not misspell it.

    PHILIPP and INES are Filipinos.

    Philip pines for the Filipinos.

Also another thing, foreigners must be confused with the way we call our ourselves. Why do we use/call our ourselves "Filipinos" (starting with F) when our country is Philippines (starting with a P) ? Look at other countries --- for China, it is Chinese; for Japan, it is Japanese, etc. Why don't we then not use Philippinos ? This makes us unique in the world. (But I, as a Filipino, know why we use the term Filipino and not Philippino.)
