is it ok for me to be too attached to a tv series or book? who just watched Buffy the vampire slayer here?
ok here's the deal. i bought the whole season of buffy the vampire slayer and now i am currently in season 3. about last year i keep seeing re-runs of buffy and it kinda made me wanna watch the full episodes but who knew that i was gonna be so attached to it i cry at times and it seems like i can feel their pain. it's like, i have watched their fictional lives from the beginning and i saw them grow and have relationships and get hurt and stuff that i cant help but get suck in to their world. lol right now season 3 episode 20 is my latest crying and my eyes are really puffy. last time i cried this hard is when angel was was angelus again and he hurt buffy so much. i have heard of tv drama but i guess BtVS speaks to me more. is it ok for me to feel this way?
i also have the same problem with books so i only read one shot novels. the whole reason why i dont wanna read twilight. harry potter will be the last book i read with a whole lot of sequels to it.
any thoughts? opinions? comments? please and thank u
if ur currently watching buffy or just have finished watching or have done watching a long time ago but still clear in ur memory, please do send me an e-mail.

Yeah, it's fine to be affected by good storytelling. Season 2 and 3 of Buffy had some of the best television ever written, imho.
If you want other people to talk about BtVS with, you should go hunt down the fandom. There's a great Buffy forum here: http://www.buffyforums.net/
Also get yourself a LiveJournal and join some of the busy Buffy communities over there. The Buffy fandom isn't as busy as it once was, but there's still lots of fans hanging around, both new like you and old school like me. :)

So, I read the first sentence of your question (is it ok for me to be too attached to a tv series or book?) and immediately into my mind popped BUFFY! and then I continued reading your question (who just watched Buffy Buffy the vampire slayer here?) and got extremely excited.
I am not going to lie. I am addicted to Buffy. I cry watching reruns. I laugh during reruns. I throw Buffy references into casual conversation just to see if anyone catches on (no one ever does). My fish tank is named after Buffy characters (like the fish, not the actual tank, since that would be odd).
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is epically epic. "Nuf said.
Actually, more to be said, be sure to watch Angel well you are watching Buffy season four through five, since it's sort of corresponding and epic as well.
Also, watch Dollhouse (season one just ended, but you can probably find it online). It's on Global and made by Joss Whedon (BTVS creator) and stars Eliza Dushku (Faith). It's acutally really good. And it also has Amy Acker in it, who is an Angel-verse character.
For books, I am going to suggest a few obsession worthy ones, since... well, that's what I do.
So, Twilight is addicting, but much less good post-movie, since it's kind of tweenie.
OH! SIDE BAR BACK TO BUFFY FO A SEC. Get the comics!! AND FRAY!! Fray is the slayer of the future comic and is amazingly cool.
Carrying on;
Vampire Acadmey (ignore the lame name, it's epic)
Scott Westerfeld books
LJ Smith books (you said you liked short stories; read the Nightworlds; they're really good)
Apparently City of Bones/Ashes/Glass is good, but I haven't read it yet
Unwind (or any book by Neal Shusterman)
Stray Series (really good, despite the fact that its about werecat)
Okay, so I have strayed from the topic, but basically, you're obsession is normal and well deserving.
If you want other books or TV shows that are epic and beyong, let me know and I can fill you in.

And just to think you are going to be seeing some of the best yet to come. Season 5 and 6 were my faves cause Willow is no longer the Willow we all know and she totally did a 360.
It is definitely normal to cry when watching a movie or reading a book. I know I do.
Also have you watched the Angel series??? If not definitely watch those too.

Wow, when you buy in you really go for it!
It is normal to really identify with a series and when it is a surpassingly good one like Buffy, then settle back and enjoy the ride!
Buffy is definitely top class for all the reasons you describe but also the acting, clever scripts and fresh ideas. It sits proudly in my home alongside other classics, like Daria, Xena, Hercules, Angel and Ultraviolet (to name but 5!).
Enjoy your passion.
Good luck, Steve.

It's totally normal! I was completely the same way with Buffy! It's my favorite show of all time. <3 I watch it all the time still and I still get so wrapped up in it! :D

Well let me tell you that I watch Buffy and Charmed over and over. I never get enough of them My friends tell me to let it go, that buffy is over. I tell him that I like it so I am goin to continue to watch it. Its nothing wrong with being attached to show. As long as you dont let it mess with real life stuff, like work or school. As for the crying wait till you get to season 5 your really goin to cry.

Well when a series or a book series that I enjoy ends I turn to fan fiction. This helps me not be so sad it ended.
