Why do pencils have horrible erasers?

Maybe that's why, to get you to buy them.

get ticonderoga pencils...they're the best and have the best eraser

Erasers lift off the surface of the paper period. If you are serious about drawing and making marks you will learn to make light marks, use a rag to smudge the page, and only use erasers as a last resort on what you don't intend to make marks on again. We should not be using the erasers put on pencils. You are absolutely right about that.

They try to earn stupid money. They are made out of rubber, which some erasers work better than others. They leave marks because that's just how rubber works. They mix rubber with this material and put them on the pencils. Rubber isn't that sustained: So they sometimes fall off easily. So they suck haha.

having a rubber on it gives the illusion that the pencil is more useful and so more people will want to buy it instead of normal ones but in actual fact the ones with the rubber are worse as the lead breaks easily and the rubber rubs out poorly.

i don't like automatic/mechanical pencils as they break really easily.

My advice is buy the slightly more expensive pencil and you won't have these probelms. but it all comes down to how much you are willing to pay for value.

Well, the pencil makers know that once you use up your eraser you're probably going to want a new pencil, therefore, they sell more pencils because they know you will buy it.

Interesting. It seems that the quality goes over time. In the 60s and 70s, they were fantastic. In the 80s, some brands of wood became rubbery. Now all brands are poor. Why do people put up with crappy pencils?!!!

no0t all penicls have a hard eraser but most do. I have noticed that the ones with animation on them have nice erasers that are very great

mechanical pencils are stupid becuae of that ithink you need t o buy quality penicls if you want effective writing :)

about the lead though, you can put it in where it comes out if your really desperate but holding the eraser downa dn pusshing the lead in

Good question! Being a lefty I hate using pencils I always end up making smudge marks. Permanent markers are the worst.
