Battery problem? Car radio keeps resetting.?

Ten months ago the battery in my car died and I brought the car to a service center. The mechanic said it was bad cables, changed them and also put in a new battery. He also told me the alternator was fine. Now about two weeks ago the battery died again. I hadn't driven this vehicle in a while and wasn't starting it so I figured that had something to do with it. The local auto parts store tried to recharge the battery but were unable to, telling me it was defective. Not wanting to go back to this particular mechanic I just bought another battery.

Now the car still has a symptom which it had before which is that the every few days the clock radio will be reset and the interior lights won't work. Once I start it, the lights come back and I have to reset the radio again.

Looking for any insight as to what the problem might be. Is it somehow related to the battery dying? Could this be causing the battery to die?

Update:

Appreciate all the answers so far folks. One thing to add; this car isn't being driven right now. Its sits in the lot and I start it every few days. I'll always know when the radio has reset because when I open the car door, the lights won't work.

Update 2:

Tim,

Appreciate your answer. This battery was changed last May and they cleaned the cables; in fact they changed them. When I put in a new battery a few months ago I cleaned the contacts. I have not cleaned the starter so I'll have to give that a try. When you say relay box, do you mean where the fuses are?

you have a drain in your system. one way to check that for sure is to take off the neg cable. get a volt meter and set it to volts. Put the red lead of the volt meter on the neg post and the black lead to the negative battery cable terminal. If you have voltage with everything off and doors shut this would indicate that somthing is draining your battery. you next challenge is to find out what it is.

I had the same problem with the radio in my old truck. I first thought is was the radio, but turned out that it was a poor battery connection. I cleaned the terminals thoroughly and also the connection points of the cables to the frame (ground) and positive connections (starter, ignition, and relay box). Never had any problems after this.

it relatively is maximum possibly your battery. it sounds like it wont carry the can charge anymore and thats why it gets weaker with each and every time you commence it up. despite if it additionally may be a bad alternator, its pastime is to can charge your battery whilst your automobile is working so in the journey that your battery comes returned solid it is going to maximum possibly be your alternator
