What is this genre of music called? (please help!)?

I like bands like The Kooks, The Wombats, the Pigeon Detectives, etc. Any idea what genre they fit into?

Update:

Please don't be rude. Music taste isn't something to have a war about. (:

Update 2:

Thanks, guys. (:

Indie, and the kooks are utterly beautiful, (their music's incredible too, lol.)

The pigeon detectives are wonderful, the wombats the same.

I adore indie music, have you heard of the maccabees, also Death Cab For Cutie are incredible, and their lyrics are so beautiful and actually show talent. There's a lot more I could reccommend but then I'd end up rambling.(:

Search Death Cab For Cutie, and play a few of their songs, they have a lot, by a lot, I really do mean A LOT! Some of them are not as good but look around a bit and you'll find that they are amazing. (:

    xx

EDIT: haha I realised that you've already heard of them. xD They're great, aren't they. I miss you too and my email thing broke so I couldn't reply to your email. :(

    Yeh, these are all Indie,

Itunes puts all these bands under 'alternative'

but if you were talking about them to most people, i recon they'd class it as Indie!

good choice by the way : D

    indie, but popular indie

indie by definition is independent, but all of those bands are signed to major labels and have huge fan bases, yet they'd still be considered indie
