Has this Playstation 3 malfunction happen to anybody else?

My PS3 turns on, it says Sony Entertainment America and the big, white wavy lines continue to move up and down, however, nothing pops up! I can't get any games, videos, music - nothing. I can insert and eject games and movies but they never show up on the screen. I checked my hdmi cable and it seems to be working fine.

Has this happened to anybody else and if so, what was the solution?

I will call Sony tomorrow but I already know they're going to say to send it in and they will charge me $162 but I'm not falling for that again. The last time I sent in my PS3 it came back worse than how I sent it. Not only did it NOT play standing up but it overheats after about 4 minutes of gameplay.

Can anybody give me some advice before I pay to have it repaired?!

I would say first of all, you indicated you have had the console serviced once before, all PlayStation 3 repairs carry a 90 day warranty so if your within that time frame immediately call Sony and it will be repaired or replaced for free. If you're beyond that, there isn't much you can do as the only thing you can replace yourself is the hard drive, but that probably won't fix the problem as I can't see it being a hard drive problem. Sorry the news isn't great but unfortunately that's really all you can do.

i don't think there is any one that can give you advice. tou can keep sending it to sony or buy a new one with a longer warranty
