Are Lebanese Christians "western wannabe" ? Serious question !?
Here is my poiny of view (no offence intended)
Lets face it! i was raised in a french catholic school in Lebanon and they used to brainwash us that France and western countries are better than us and we must be like them. So most (if not all) of the Lebanese Christians are "western wannabe" ...
Just visit the French Embassy and see how the Lebanese who works there treat other Lebanese. Basically, Lebanese Christians try to show off by adopting the "gh" and a different culture !
Living here in the US, I realized that a Lebanese to become Lebanese, he must live abroad ... At least here in the US, the Lebanese community has kept its traditional Dabke , music and food. Not like the street of MONO !

well because when the french colonized lebanon they introduced christianity, therefore you find MORE christians that speak french than others.
Dont forget they also brought education, so people were educated in french.
I am muslim and i speak french.. nothing wrong with that..
besides.. all the other arabs are lebanese wannabes xp

And the lebanese abroad are not listening to "western" music? And they don't go "dancing"? They don't move out of their parents' house when they're old enough? They don't hook up so easily and frequently? They don't treat people of other nationalities in a way that suggest they think they're better than the others? They don't wear "western" clothes and drive around in their "western" cars?
These actions have nothing to do with a person's religion.. Most christians go abroad to western countries, while most muslims go to the arab countries.. But in the end, they are all Lebaense abroad and their behavior brings on attention to them.. This is not just a christian thing.. A lot of christians in Lebanon do eat the traditional food and the musi and the dabke, you'll notice this to happen in a big number of Lebanese weddings in Lebanon!.. But it's the same with muslim..religion plays no part in this.. Are we Lebanese, no matter of what religion we come from, never supposed to eat out or have a slice of pizza or have a drink or go partying just because we're Lebanese?? Lebanon is the life of the party..People like to have fun, can you blame them? It's good to have a bit of distraction from the wars and the political issues in here..

Ask yourself this ...why is it that some Lebanese find it necessary to score cheap shots at others with different political , religious or cultural points of view !
Why do you ALL need to be judge , jury & executioner ..? Can't you see that this attitude of trying to point score all the frigging time just makes the gaps wider & does absolutely nothing to bring people together.
As an outsider with a passion for my Lebanese heritage it grieves me to see this continual arguing over stupid points that really are past their used by date !
I wasn't going to answer this question because I feel I can add nothing constructive but on reading some of the answers already posted felt obliged to say something.

As a Christian I agree. Remember the old spiritual that says "everybody talking about heaven ain't going there"? And Jesus didn't spend a lot of time talking about Heaven as he did encouraging us to remember that if we want to be welcomed in to his kingdom we'd better care for the less fortunate and be of service to others otherwise he might say he does even know us! Oops, so much for easy salvation or faith without works! Having said that I have to think that this is true of all religious people in general, not just Christians, the tendency to pride and self righteousness, as Jesus was pretty hard on folks like that; Scribes and Pharisees. Good point-maybe we should spend alittle more time doing what's right and and less time worrying about what others believe.

They wanna look fresh off the boat lol
okay joke aside,
away from the religion aspect, i think in general maybe its just what teenagers are thinking as 'cool' , and what media shows it just brainwashes everybody telling people how they should look, live and act. I guess like its said "the grass is greener on the other side" - or looks.
Keeping culture and everything with that is important , and suprised to hear that the school was telling you that france and western countries are better thats really biast

Well your school was right, Western countries are better. You really think our culture would make France or any other western country better? Having civil wars, segregation, racial and religious violence, having groups like hezbollah causing our neighbor country to bomb it, being enemies with all neighbors?
Lebanese in Lebanon do not consider those who leave Lebanon to be Lebanese and dont consider there children lebanonese either. Just how it is. And it seems being lebanese these days is being a Muslim, since Christians are being treated like 2nd class citizens now.

Why just Christians? Why always religion?
Lebanon is just affected by globalisation and Lebanese people aren't bothering to face this.
We are losing some of our traditions... but other aspects never fade away (like hospitality, generosity...)

i agree with this guy COMPLETELY:
إن كنت شجاعا فتقدم
and i sort of agree with u when u said lebanese abroad keep their traditions more, its not only lebanese but all arabs abroad, the arab community here in america does all these parties and dabkes and picnics and everything all traditional style and they embrace their culture but arabs and whatever living in the middle east try way too damn hard to appear "western"
im born and raised in america, nothing good about it that makes me wanna be something im not. ppl will respect us more if we stop being butt kissers and actually act like ouselves and not others
thinking it will make us seem more classy.
and btw i speak english fluently and i hate it when ppl try to act all high class and smart and throw in english words as they speak when it doesnt FIT in thr sentence and they pronounce it TOTALLY wrong, and they wonder why i laugh lol
Source(s): Squishy, im palestinian and i am not even close to a lebanese wannabe, i hate when people say that, no thanks not everyone wants to be like yall - JanoobeeLv 41 decade ago
these are the minorities that make the "class" society of LEBANON, but go to any christian home outside beirut and you find the christians that made the cultural revolution of the middle east, those pioneers that resurrected the arabic culture were Lebanese Christians not muslims.
