Electrical adapters in Peru?

Hi there, American here. Will be in Peru for three weeks, and will probably need to charge batteries for camera, PDA, etc... Do I need to bring adapters? If so, what kind?

Make sure your item can handle voltage around 220. Most of Peru uses that.

Now the plugs in some parts are the same, and in others use a european 2 cylinder looking plug.

From what I hear though, they have universal plug sockets that can handle both rounded and flat (us) pronged ones.

Typically chargers that have a brick, like your laptop, will be able to handle any voltage and therefore will work fine.

Smaller stuff that just plugs straight in will get messed up, and you would need a step-down transformer.

The previous answer is not exactly true. Peru has both 120 and 220 electricity. If you try to us a 120 appliance with a 220 voltage you may have problems. If you stay in the nicer hotels, you will probably see 120, otherwise I would buy a 220 to 120 converter/adapter.

Not usually - but you should get one just in case or for 'less expensive' motels; we have never needed an adapter. If you are coming from the US your equipment *should* be able to handle both 110V and 220V at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz, so don't bother with inverters and such. Additionally, most tourist hotels have both 110 V and 220 V outlets but even those that don't have the type of plug that will fit either round or flat plugs. Refer to the tables others have listed.

Same as USA so no worries. Have fun!
