what do you do if you touch undeveloped birds?

we knocked over a nest and 4 baby birds with barely any feathers on it fell out and we put them back in the nest. will they live and will the mom return to them even though we touched them

    You did the right thing. The mother will not abandon the babies because they have been touched as suggested. That is a myth. Birds have a poor sense of smell

    No, birds have really bad senses of smell, so the mother probably won't notice. The only problem would be if they got hurt when they fell and their scent left a trail for predators to follow to the nest.

    I actually heard that the whole mother bird wont return to her babies if you touch them in bunk. I know herad this on a show on the Discovery channel. I think it was just made up to prevent children from messing with bird nests.

    The scent of your hands gets on the birds and the mother will not think it is her children! So never touch a nest unless you know the mother is dead.

    no touching them will cause the mother to avoid the nest

    She might not...mother birds only know they are hers by smell. If she smells you..you are screwed. Try putty rubbergloves on and kindof rub them with a wet leaf. It might get the human sent off.

    theres a high chance that the mother will abandon the nest. since you touched it she might think u did something bad to her chicks
