I am hoping there is a professional out there that can answer a period question.?

I was on the pill for many years because I always got deathly sick with my period. However, now that I am over 35 and smoke, I got off it. For a few years, my periods were ok, but now again, they are terrible. Between throwing up and getting diarrhea, I can't stand it. I haven't totally ruled out children yet, so I don't want to get a hysterectomy, but I can't stand it anymore. I had an ultrasound done years ago, but they didn't find anything wrong. Should I get a second opinion from another doctor? Does anyone know why they would be so bad, and what I can do to fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you having severe pain that is causing your illness? If so, you could have endometriosis. Endometriosis is a condition where endometrial tissue (like that of the inner lining, or endometrium, or the uterus) migrates and proliferates outside of the uterus. This can lead to intense pain, especially during periods. Endometriosis cannot be seen on ultrasound unless it forms a tumor on the ovaries.

If not, you might want to ask your doctor to test your thyroid and FSH levels. Your hormone levels could be off, and that could lead to some not-so-fun complications. The cause of gynecological issues isn't necessarily gynecological in nature.

Birth control pills are not the answer to everything, and in many cases, they are the cause of problems.

Always go for a second opinion is possible. There are new pills out that can decrease the symptoms you are experiencing. (Though with the same affects.) There are so many options out on the market now that there is bound to be one that is a good fit for you. Have you tried depo provera? It has been known to suppress periods in women, doesn't require daily, weekly, or monthly injections, and has a low fail rate.

Find an OB/GYN than will do an internal ultrasound of your uterus, and consider an endometrial ablation. It can lessen the bleeding and pain. The internal ultrasound can give the doctor a better idea of what is going on.

Some women just have that problem. Have you ever though about giving up smoking and getting on a light pill or even the shot or patch?

go to chinatown, and get herbal medicine-traditional chinese medicine. they can fix irregular period, pain, other symtoms. they might not work right away, but in a long term, they work well usually. Aleve is good for pain too.
