Is "cash for gold" the real deal or a rip-off?
Just wondering if those commercials for 'cash for gold' are true or are they some kind of scam where they'll give me $1 per item or nothing at all.
Has anybody tried it?

Sadly, Cash for Gold is preying on people who are in bad situations during hard times. It's unfortuate to see/read about this, but it's out there. Beware and if you can avoid it, keep your gold. Sometimes it's family heirlooms that are priceless and you shouldn't be misled by scams like this. You will ALWAYS get less money than your gold is worth, or else they wouldn't be in business. Who do you think they profit off of? Who keeps them in business? Unsuspecting people.

I haven't tried them, but I have done a lot of research and found what I think is the best pne out there. It's called the Silver and Gold Exchange. First, they paid more than anyone else I could find. Second, they use Priority Mail, insured up to $5000 when most of the others only insure to $100. Third, and best of all, they have a live chart on their website where they show what they will pay per gram for every form of gold and silver. I suggest you check them out at http://silverandgoldexchange.com/

I can tell you for a fact that it's a rip off because I personally know people who had dealt with cash for gold and were scammed out of the little money that was promised. If you want to sell your jewelry, you're better off auctioning it.

I have not personally tried it myself, but a friend of mine has and she says it is a complete scam. They do give you something in return, but because you send it to them before they agree on a price, they can now give you back whatever they want to give you for your gold and they have your gold in their hands so there is nothing you can do about it. She got much less then the gold was worth. My advice is to not try it. You will get something back, but not what you were looking for.

My parents say that they somebody who used it once. You pretty much get the gold at melt value. You could get a lot more money for it elsewhere.
Some people tell me it is mainly for people who are unsure about the history of the gold or know it's stolen and want to get money without getting caught, but that's just a rumor.
