Reasons for a month or longer stay in a hospital?

My girlfriend has been hospitalized for over a month now. She told me that she had a fever of 103, which was caused by infected scar tissue from her surgery. I can't be there with her because we are in a long distance relationship, and the hospital won't give me information because I am not a family member. I tried everything I could to contact her, but haven't received anything back. I really do care for her and not knowing anything is killing me. If anyone has some valid reasons as to why a hospital stay lasts this long, then please let me know. She also found out that she's anemic if that's worth anything.

being anemic can be bad..... and they probably want to make sure she's ok. Although, my sister in law went in for a simple procedure and stayed there 9 days (1-2 day hospital stay normally).... that hospital sucked. Maybe her hospital sucks too? or....... well i mean maybe she has other problems that you don't know about, and they are just trying to make sure she's fine before they let her go. Can't you call her room? I mean they can't really deny you that I don't think.
