What does cc means in motorcycles and liter means in car?

like some motorcycles stated 250cc some cars 1.8liter.

Update:

So,how the cc/liter affect the consumption of petrol?

The fourth answer is incorrect. CC's and Liters means the area of a cylinder times the number of all the cylinders. One liter = 1000cc's. 1 liter equal 61 cubic inches. Pi times radius squared x stroke x number of cylinders.

Combustion chamber, valve size and camshaft lift snd duration has no bearing on the displacement of an engine.

Fuel consumption is open for debate. Generally a car with the least amount of weight, most efficient motor and most forward gears gets the best fuel economy. However, this isn't always true.

State of tune, aerodynamic efficiency, final drive ratio, all of the transmission gear ratios can fool a smart person.

CC means cubic centimetres. A thousand CCs is the same as one litre so 1.8 litres is 1800 CCs.

Simplistically both terms are measuring the volume of the pistons of an engine.

I'm not sure why bikes are typically measured in CCs and cars in litres.

It is the 'displacement' of the cylinders. The intake valve opens, the piston moves down and draws a certain amount of gas/air mixture into the cylinder. The volume of this is measured in ccs (or cubic inches in the US). This amount, times the number of cylinders, is the 'size' of the engine.

It translates roughly to horsepower, but some engines get a lot more horsepower out of a given size than others.

    They're volumetric measurements:

250cc means that the entire engine design mainframe is a total of 250 cubic centimeters.

Same with the car engine, just a lot larger.......1.8 liter engine......

Source(s): EDIT: As logic dictates, the larger the motor, the more petrol it will consume. Other factors will also be determinate of the petrol consumption: Grade (steepness of the road being traveled) in % of grade weather conditions driving habits tire pressure (yes, that really DOES have an influence on engine efficiency) So, the 250 cc engine is moving a smaller mass. The 1.8 liter engine is going to consume more petrol due to the fact that it's moving a larger, more substantial object. If you need a more in depth explaination, edit your Q again..

Same thing it means in a doctors syringe or anywhere else you see cc. Cubic centimeters. One liter = 1000 cc's. So, a 1.8 liter engine is the same as 1800cc's.

cubic centimeter is the measurement of volume in a liquid amount that will fit inside the cylinder. same thing on auto engines.

They are both units of measure for volume. cc stands for cubic centimeters

they are the combustion chamber volume of all cylinders combined. 1000cc's is 1 liter. So a 1500cc motorcycle is 1.5 liters.

closed captioning jkjk it means cubic centimeter liter means size of the engine bigger the liter bigger the motor!!!!
