Why don't U let the the girls perform cremation rituals?
In India, girl child is being killed massively. The number of girls has decreased substantially. Only 793 girls have remained there against 1000 boys in Punjab, the most advance and richest state of India. I have suggested some ways to bring the society out of this problem. One is, we should break the age old idea that only the boys have the right to perform the last rituals for the dead.
Would U plz.hit
tusharcosmic
at youtube and see my HINDI video there and then comment?
We should allow our girls also to perform the last rituals for the dead. We should break the idea that soul of the dead remains at peace or goes ahead to its destination only if the last rituals are performed by a son of the dead only. Due to this belief which does not have any scientific backing a lot many people of our society go ahead in trying to give birth to a son. Before adequate contraceptives they used to increase the population, these days they use the contraceptives or go for an abortion when ever they come to know there is a girl in the belly of the mother. Thus they go on increasing the sex ratio gap. The second method to tackle this problem is, we should increase earning opportunities for the girls .We have done a lot many things for this purpose as we can see girls working at petrol pumps, we can see girls driving auto rickshaws and taxies. Yet a lot is to be done in this field. . If all of these step,we will be able to get rid the gap of sex ratio but Dowry also.
This one is for V the top contributor,V,I have suggested two ways to tackle the problem, one the we should increase the employment opportunities for girls,if it happens, the girl starts earning ,she would not be felt an economic burden to Her-in-Law family. The second one was to let her do the cremation along with males of the family, which U have denied totally.why don't U see lot many people wish for a boy because it is considered that only boys should do the cremation otherwise the soul of the dead would not find "Gati".U talk of Hinduism that they have been told to respect women by their Faith,it is wrong-these Hindus were burning the widows in the name of Dharma, the lord Ram is taking Agni Pariksha of Sita and then again sending her to the jungle just because he has listened to a bad comment of a Dhobi about Sita.Pandavas made Draupadi wife of Five and Yudhishtra kept her on the stake in a game of gambling & he is called DharamRaj.U never know what the masses learn from where.
And U say that Sikh Gurus also have told to respect female,U are right they have. But Sikhs are also very much affected by Hindus and their beliefs. They are writing surnames, they are doing caste discrimination, they are taking care of Mangalvaar and other Vaars.A lot many things they have adopted from Hindus, which are not in Sikhism.U are wrong if u say religious and cultural beliefs do not cast any effect on the practical lives of the people.Of course, many times people distort the real teachings of the Gurus.
I believe there are so many reasons of Gender inequality and if we get rid of the idea that only the sons or males of the family should perform the cremation rituals because only then the soul of the dead would get the "Gati" and let our girls perform the cremation rituals,we will remove one reason of murder of girls in the womb.

OMG! this is SO true i am a indian girl myself and i don't see y i don't have the right to perform cremation rituals even though i am the elder one....
the problem is so deeply spread that it has become a part of living ppl just seem to be doing it because their forefathers did so which is rridiculous
i think the first step would be to help parents realise that having a daughter is no crime lol

You are jamming together two unrelated issues.
The problem with female infanticide is not linked to this but is a problem of greed.
People don't want to give dowries and people won't marry without dowries.
Greed is also responsible for the ever increasing corruption in India.
You give the figures of Punjab which is a predominantly Sikh populated state.
Do you know in Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh had said that the Sikhs will not associate with people who kill the girl child. Yet Sikhs are killing the girl child.
Now will you blame religious customs or greed? Same thing is true amongst Hindus who kill girls for money. It's simply ignorance and greed.
Infact in Hinduism it says wherever women are not respected God never resides in that home.
Edit:
Ok i will explain since you asked for it. Rama let's go of Sita because as a King he must uphold the same ideals for everyone including himself even though he knows Sita to be pure. Justice must just not be done but also be percieved to be done. You cannot have a different law for the Dhobi and different for the king. That is the importance of Ram's decision. He not only punishes Sita but himself too. For the rest of his life he lives sleeping on the floor just like Sita. That is Ram. You must read the Ramayana in entirety to understand the context.
As for your criticism of Yudhistra in Mahabharat, no where has he been shown to be the ideal. Infact no character is perfect in the Mahabharat except Krishna. So don't criticise Hinduism based on what Yudhistra did. He is not the ideal. The ideal is Krishna.
Edit2:
Women do not perform cremation because they are generally more emotional and distressed at the time of death of a loved one. There are many arrangements to be made for cremation. You talk of a false sense of equality through tokenism.
Already false sense of equality is promoted in India with special concessions in property registration for women, tax benefits especially for women. These kind of token things do nothing for equality.

I agree with Rajiv. There are also actual scientific spiritual reasons behind not allowing women to do cremation rituals.
We don't need to go away from our rituals and religion. It is the most scientific religion in the world only if it weren't warped by ignorance. That ignorance is what has caused issues such as infanticide, dowry, etc.
So lets try to lift that ignorance. I think that is the best thing for the betterment of society. I've found this website which is teaching me more about Hinduism and the science behind it. Check it out:

This is a very sensitive issue, and needs strict implementation of the law of the land by the government.
Sex determination of fetuses has to go and any doctor involved in it punished severely. Any one demanding money during marriages has to be sent to jail, crimes against women should deserve capital punishment. Sops for parents of the girl child, compulsory education, increasing marriageable age of the girl to 21 yrs...
Where there is a will, there is a way, and your suggestion is changing a religious practise that will not achieve much...
Addition 1: The idiot down in the list who suggested men are more courageous than women, try delivering a baby... forget that, try developing a constipation and face it without medication for a week!!! It is people like you who have to be punished first!!!
Addition 2: Parents should realize that in case of the absence of a male progeny for performing cremation rituals, a close male relative can substitute. There are instances in ancient India where women have done it as well.
Addition 3: I'm single, and I would love to be the proud father of a cute, smart and proud daughter!!!!

look.. this is just a practical thing to understand.. practically in real life boys are generally courageous than girls by their nature.. its gods creation.. so we cant do anything.. but girls are not so.. they get fears when they see all these cremenations in the creminal ground...
first let me knoe can u alon to a cremenation ground?? but a boy can surely...
God knows who has to do what.. bcause its his own creation!!!
He knows more than u and me...
which things should be where.. it should be there only...
If everybidy is going to be courageous they who will be afraid so that one can help other...
there are many things to say..
but at last but not least.. my idea is that a girl should always be a girl and should not try to be a boy.. u can .. only compete for the things which wont harm others!!!
my notes may be so bitter to hear, but if u think for a while.. u will understand it..

The women of India in the past were not so bold to burn her dear ones with her own hand.Even today they don't get the courage to burn her own father, mother or son. They are very emotional and possessive about their dear ones.I remember ,when my grandfather died the women of our house started crying. One of them became unconscious .My father's sisters started tearing their hairs in emotion. My grandmother started breaking her bangles. But the men in the house were not crying. My father remained conserved although he was extremely sad.And the moment the body was set to fire the women started crying at the top of their voices.Do you expect these emotional women to perform such a brutal act like setting fire to their own father.I don't .Hinduism is a practical religion.
