Great Dane chews when I'm not home!!?
My 9 month Great Dane occasionally chews up everything he finds when I'm not home.
Usually he doesn't touch anything in the apartment, but when he does, he chews everything he can find and knocks everything down.
When I come home, it takes him 10 minutes to greet me at the door from excitement. When he destroys the apartment, he runs straight into his crate when I come home because he KNOWS he did something he wasn't supposed to.
Please help!!!
What is causing his behavior?
And what can I do in order to make him stop this behavior?
He has been left loose in the apartment for over 3 months now, and he has not misbehaved until recently.
If I do leave him in his crate when I am not home, he punishes me by peeing in his crate then laying in it. (He does not pee in the house otherwise).
He's not teething anymore, all his adult teeth have grown out.
Also, I leave him a variety of many toys.
Thank you all so much!

Crate him during the time when you aren't home and at night make sure the crate is large for him to move around lay down and play a little. This is his bedroom. make it nice. Put him in there anytime you are not with him, you leave for the store, work, take a shower or bed. He'll get the idea this is were I'm suppose to be when no one is home or all are busy. Don't put him in there to punish him ever. Eventually when it's time for you to do something. you say "Ok baby it's time for me to go to work." He will go straight to the crate and lay down. same with " It's time to go to bed". He go.. He won't hate to go he'll like it if you make it a good experience for him. And always praise him when you let him out. Good boy you played so nice in your bedroom. Dogs don't understand all the words you say but they understand alot more than some people think. And they will understand more it you talk to them like a person.

I am having pretty much the same issue with my German Shepherd. She chewed my son's playpen last week, and this morning she destroyed the bottom of my loveseat. I take her to doggy daycare a couple days out of the week and I walk her. She just recently started as well and she is 10 months old so all of her baby teeth are gone too. Lots of toys, rawhides but she doesn't go in her crate. I try to take her for a walk during my lunch break if I can get home. I have two young children, so I know it is tough to find time to do everything you are supposed to with a dog-
I think it's important to let your dog understand that it's crate is not punishment and it is their safe zone to get away. I suppose the key for both of us would be to try and take the time out of our hectic schedule to throw a ball, or maybe a short walk. I used to let her run in my back yard with me, but then she started to take off.

keep issues out of his attain. earlier devoting your self to a huge dogs, you may desire to settle for that it potential you will could desire to puppy-evidence so plenty greater of your place. in case you capture him chewing then ask your self him with a noisy noise or squirt him. in case you may desire to then keep him in a kennel (with chew toys) once you're long previous until you may practice him and puppy-evidence your place. inspite of the incontrovertible fact that this could not be performed or greater desirable than a pair hours an afternoon. he's very bored and lonely already. purely be confident you're offering him with adequate psychological stimulation. verify you exercising him on a daily basis and play with him adequate. Chewing purely once you're long previous is maximum possibly a cry for interest, he's lonely and bored once you're long previous that long.

a 9 month old dog really shouldn't be allowed loose in the house when you are not around. he should either be crated, or confined to a doggy-proof area.
it sounds like he's anxious about something.
don't leave him alone, unconfined all day. start small.... like a hour at a time.

This is a VERY common problem with young dogs . Most puppies will destroy whatever they can sink their teeth into when the humans in their lives aren`t around .
It`s partly because they`re mad that you`re not there , and quite likely a teething problem also . It`ll pass , but the objective in the meantime is damage control .
I`d get some advice from your vet on this ............
BTW .......... having his penis and teeth removed as suggested by JOE928 won`t help ..................... After all , it did nothing for JOE928 , as everyone can see !!

Most experts agree that it is best for dogs left at home all day, to be locked in their crate. This should solve your problem.
