This is a homework assignment, isn't it?

The "old-fashioned way" is still used by lots of people.

    - You park the car in the driveway or on the street by your house, within reach of the garden hose.

    - Fill a bucket 3/4 with water and some mild detergent (you can buy one specifically for cars or use dish liquid or something)

    - Hose down the car

    - Using a sponge or rag soaked in the soapy water, wipe down the car, getting fresh soapy water on the the sponge often.

    - Start at the top, and work in sections, hosing off each section before soaping up the next. (You don't want the detergent to dry on the car.)

    - When you've washed and rinsed the whole car, you can use an old towel to dry it off, to prevent spotting.

Automated car washes work in a similar way, with either cloth-like "brushes" or simply high-powered jet sprays. Some drag your car through a "tunnel" and some have the spray mechanism move around the car as the car is parked inside the tunnel.

How did they do it before the *car* was invented!? Huh? Now that's a toughie.

I suppose IF they washed it they used a barrel with water in it or some kind of basin. Maybe they just let it rain on it to clean it.

They would use a sponge to soap the car, a hose to rinse the soap off the car, and some some towels to dry the car.

They waited for it to rain and then went running outside with the soap.

By the way this is the same way they took showers before the invention of the bathroom.

With a bucket, a sponge, soapy water, and a towel, the same way many people still wash their cars.

Are you serious?? With a bucket and a sponge? Which is exactly what you should be doing to save water. Rivers are drying up you know. Jeez.
