How does young African American culture, as it currently stands, benefit Black Women?

Before getting defensive, hear me out and give me a proper answer:

I ask this as an "attractive" black female who often has black men come up to her with a sense of entitlement (ie/ upon first meeting me, a man goes, "you want me," he's engaged too), yet, when they realize I won't stand for that, still attempt to pursue.

I am pursued by many races of men, but see this most in black men...

They become in conflict with telling me how I am supposed to act and swoon over them while realizing it's not happening and continue pursuing me in the hopes I will come to my senses or what not.

Rap videos, sexual harassment, lots of men dating outside race, black men put on a pedestal in the community, cheating, etc...

How does it benefit black women...please prove me wrong...

I am not AA, btw, but grew up in the States...so maybe I am missing something.

I don't think being a woman, period, is benefitted by any sector of society.

That said, within their own culture, the way a Black girl is raised, she is not told she has to have a tiny butt and conform to some stick-figure mentality like other races are expected to. There are MUCH fewer cases of anorexia documented in Black females, where in whites it runs rampant.

That's only one small thing - that can mean a lot.

Single Black women are the leading demographic group in becoming homeowners. While there seem to be far too few true Black MEN willing to uphold strong family and societal values, I say kudos to Black women who ARE holding homes, managing to raise children who become productive members of society - and just plain still trying to make it despite all factors against them.

I would say that in spite of it all, Black women are keeping up the fight that Rosa Parks took up, to just be considered a human equal and excel in our world. And they are making headway - but it will require their men to become real men and stand for values that make a difference, to really move things forward in this society.

The more women like yourself hold their own values and refuse to get involved with the breakdown of family values - turn away the ones who just want to play...the better it is for all.

It's sad that so many Black women are still having to work SO hard to get their own male counterparts to wise up and get right, and value them.

I really understand your point....but its not just for AA women. As an AA man, you have some men that dont know how to approach any woman. But then again you have some women of all races that Enjoy that type of "greeting"

You have men of all races that are more conservative than others. Some men are just rude and too outspoken. I have white, hispanic and even asian friends with both type personalities.

I have a lot more to say, but I'll end here. Know that its not just AA....its some men in general.....not too mention these loose women that throw themselves at men.....

Why did you ask this in Rap & Hip Hop?

Perhaps that's your problem, you live in stereotypes.

    I doubt your "story" happened.

    This question sucks.
