Jeep Grand Cherokee cylinder problem?
I have a 2004 4.0 Sport Jeep Grand Cherokee which I had LPG converted two years ago.
At last years service they said we had a very minor coolant hose leak which we should get looked at but no rush. This meant we had to top up the coolant every couple of months and we had the odd patch but otherwise ok. As you can imagine we never got round to getting this looked at.
Anyhoo, the car was due to be serviced this weekend. Last night on the way home from work it overheated and we pulled over. We topped up the coolant which was empty, let the engine cool down and then started agin. The car overheated a couple of miles later. We got towed to the garage and they looked at it today.
Car starts but overheats. They advise that liquid is pouring out of the cylinder head and that to remove the head and gaskets will cost around £3000-4000 and 'that's without really knowing what the problem is'!! They quoted £700 just for a new head gasket.
The car is less than 5 years old with 50k miles. Can this be right?????

Not the best quality cars, so a problem like this at five years old is perfectly possible.
Firstly, the garage did say you should get the problem looked at - neglecting this fault is going to cost you dearly.
Secondly, £3,000-£4,000 is ridiculous: You need to find a more reliable garage - use Which? Local's website if you can't get a good personal recommendation for an independent garage. In good condition at that mileage, your car's only worth a maximum of £4,000 so spending over £1,000 on this repair would mean that you're better off selling the car 'as is' for spares on Ebay or similar.
I'd honestly expect the work to cost £500 all in.

dear the biggest wrong thing you did is first you over looked the leak because this leak can have a bad influence on the water pressure and the water circulation in your colling system . do you know as fast you drive the as fast the water pump works , that means the more water to circulates and goes out the radiator so you lose water fast . because sometimes these leaks closed by the dirt or any thing and fyou think that the problem is over but suddnly its back while your driving . second thing is turning your engine off when overheating because this could crack the case or the cascade what you had to do is to let the car running and turn on the heater with fan at full capacity so the heater would have suck all the hot air from the engine , second you could add to the radiator coolant fluid that would help too .
so my friend i feel very sorry for you and your car , but my advice is to check more than one mechanc .
