Are you aware of Medical Flash Drives?

My Health Plan offers a flash drive with all my medical history on it for $5.00 and 5 min of my time..it fits on my key ring, and is available to any Dr./Hospital/ ER if needed while we are traveling. They can plug it into their computer and know immediately what medications, major illness/surgery etc, and any other important thing regarding my health..Great for snow birds..

Update:

E-ma it can be plugged into any computer, including yours, so you can read it

I was not aware of it until now. Sounds like exactly what I need. I to hope it is something that can be worn as if I had to keep it in my purse I would not stand a chance for getting quick help.

This is something I am going to ask my Doctor about.

I liked everyone's answers about this. Good Question!

Source(s): I found out about it right here on Seniors.

I've heard of it but would never use it unless I was allowed to read everything on it and have the information explained to me to my understanding on each & every update. Why? B/C information is entered by humans who can make mistakes.

I was in hospital for 3 days with viral meningitis. It presented as severe head ache. ER doctor treated me like some addict looking for a quick & legal narcotic fix. He wouldn't treat me b/c I "refused " to get onto exam table. In reality, I was physically unable to climb up on table. He "threatened" to give me a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) to show me that I was faking. At the time, all I could think was that removing some spinal fluid may relief pressure I was now feeling from top of head to soles of feet, so I agreed to procedure. He made it very painful. (Never asked me to curve my spine.) Later, new doctors came in all masked & gowned & informed me that I was "rife with viral meningitis." I was admitted.

ER doctor must have covered his tracks b/c later my health insurance sent me information packet on how to handle "headache pain" that does not require a doctors attention. Insurance was not going to cover my $5000 hospital stay. So I asked hospital for paperwork that showed my true diagnosis. They replied, "We are not going to make up something just so your insurance will cover it."

I don't trust information documented without my knowledge. Some will even write up "hypochondriac" without your knowledge & then it can be very hard to get medical care. I have personally seen this on a client file & it cost her a lot of money to get testing done to prove that she had a real condition. (Several really, & all life threatening.) Now, treatment is too late & they can only keep her comfortable. Her livelihood is ruined & she's having a hard time getting SSI b/c of those old medical records.

That passed in Texas about three years ago. Only here, you don't have to slow down if you are not in the lane directly next to the cop. And if you do, it's only 10 MPH under posted speed.

I read about such a thing here some time ago in this section. I think it's a great idea. Great for the snow birds for sure!

I've never heard of that but it sounds like a very good idea. No need to carry around a list of meds.
