It's like a child's handshake on a promise- my children and I do this whenever they feel the need, which almost always is about not being sent to their dad's, or letting my son take the canoe out on the lake- just him and his friends this year, and so another pinkie swear that they'll be responsible and not sink it... It is a connection that reinforces a bond, a symbolic gesture stronger than the old "cross my heart, hope to die..." and I wish that I could capture each moment and more before they grow up and leave my nest. My daughter made me pinkie swear to getting her ears pierced just the other day. I won't be able to watch, I told her, and she said, that's okay, mommy, you can still hold my hand. Pinkie swear? I asked... Yes mommy, I pinkie swear. =)

    Pinkey swear!!!

Sure when I was a kid. It means a deeper promise - a bit like 'cross my heart, hope to die' as an assertion you are telling the truth.

Now for some real fun look up the origin of the word testimony

Then note the Bible is divided into Testaments.

Yeah, it's a pinkie-promise. Its meaning is that you promise this so much, that if you break it you would willingly let the other person break your pinkie, hence the significance of actually linking pinkies and shaking hands like that.

This is called a pinkie swear-even my mom knows that!

It is an unbreakable promise with the other person.

  • PINKY SWEAR!!!! OMG... That takes me back to a time when you got in trouble for PDA and getting caught chewing gum in school...
