Why are white men crying reverse racism and sexism lately?
It seems that white men are complaining about racism and sexism more than ever. White men dominated and controlled minorities and women for so many centuries and now that the shoe is on the other foot they can't seem to handle it. Women and minorities have suffered for centuries and the white male has to give a few things up to help even things out, and he can't deal with it.
There is a school of thought in sociology that states that although anyone of any gender or any race can be prejudiced, only men can be sexist and only whites can be racist. This is because racism and sexism has to do with power and society as a whole. Those who do not have any power (minorities and women) thus cannot oppres the ones that are in power (white men).
And usually when a non white person shows prejudiced towards whites is merely a defense mechanism, a response to white racism. Similarly, when a woman might feel "sexism" towards a man, it's also a defense mechanism, a response to centuries of sexism against women.
So, is it that white males see the writing on the wall? That they will no longer be in the majority in a couple of decades? Why can't they accept that they have to do their part to even things out if only for a few decades if everything was in their favor for the last 500 years?

I'm glad you've brought this up. I've always thought about this issue. I feel as if the white male, who was once considered to be the "luckiest bast@rd" on the social scale, is now falling a few meters down every day, and he's pretty scared. This is an issue that needs to be addressed in a large way (but of course that will not happen because__________(insert reason here).
So yes, I have noticed that they are boo hooing a lot lately, but...
Why bother? Why care? Look at what they have done.
Too late.

Carols, I certainly don't complain about it but where I work are some men and women that do complain a lot about it! True the white people dominated and controlled and still continue to do so and will throughout our and your children's lifetime due to inheritance of businesses and money. The minorities then complained a lot about it that's how civil rights began! Now these white people feel that things like affirmative action which allows a minority employment or College admission etc. even if they do not qualify or have worked for it. The racism toward whites is not the problem your describing but as the majority of whites have become tolerant and like me never even cared about anyones race has concern that as the minorities become more majority that abuse toward whites will begin to become more prominent! Like some retribution for instance. Many of my Black friends are very much against affirmative action because they worked their butts off to get their positions in life and through school and feel it's demeaning to their race to accept tokens when they are not deserved! It shows a lack of respect! I have to agree with them! Everyone must work and earn their way! No special gifts! Do you think that's fair? Now on the racism issue! The school of thought you are discussing was not a philosophy by a learned man but by a group rather that was obviously non white! All men and women can be racist and sexists! It's a way of thinking! Not a lifestyle! How can you say that a person that is non white cannot state sexist remarks about a woman or gay? It's done every minute! Same with stating and believing against or for a race! It becomes "Radical" then it's a lifestyle, "The Black Panthers", "The KKK", "The Neo Nazis", "The Al Quida" etc. Radicals! No one is innocent during the last 4000 years! Africans, Asians, Whites, Hispanics (Spain), Egyptians so on.

I am classified as white although I am not an Albino. Actually, I am a shade of pink. Personally, I really do not care about racism or sexism.
I have a wife, children, and a good pension. I live in South America, why? Because I have always liked Hispanic women. I see beauty in every race. I usually, read from a book or newspaper, not into reading walls. I read both English and Spanish. I also taught myself the Spanish Language from a Spanish/English Dictionary. During my time working in Law-Enforcement, I had, Black, Indian, Hispanic and White Colleagues. Some of these people were close friends. Some lost their lives. Sad, but true. So don´t make a blanket statement about White Males. Your assumptions are not correct.

You made a good point, I think they feel they are entitled to a certain level of privilege that they feel minorities have what is unfortunate is they do not recognize their own privilege being both white and male. They are not going to be attacked for their racial grouping or gender and if so it will be an act of a defense usually if done by a minority. There is a major double standard. In their defense, it should be equal but guess this will never happen two wrongs dont make a right but it would be getting even I guess when you look at it from a historic route.

Well, the "reverse racism" (I think it's stupid to call it that; racism is racism, no matter who the victim and racist are) really does happen quite often, although admittedly white men do tend to be racist more often than women or men of other races. As far as the sexism goes, it seems to me that men in general just can't handle the fact that women are getting more power and receiving greater rights. They know that women are more logical thinkers, and they fear that we will eventually take control out of their hands and have female rulers, turning the odds in our favor. Men just don't want to feel inferior, and the rising of women all over the world is making them realize that women do have the ability to be superior to men.

Aren't white men terrible. How can you say that non whites are usually prejudice towards whites as a defense mechanism, or woman are defensively sexist and then complain that white men are doing the same thing but have an unacceptable reason. That's what I'd call rationalizing bad behavior. You also say that women and minorities are dominating white males, while in reality they wield a disproportionate amount of influence compared with socio-economic boundaries that usually restricted influence. Still white males control the country and world for that matter. You shouldn't have such a negative view of white men considering they founded this country, and along with western Europe have had an amazing amount of influence on the rest of the world. If you really hate them you can found your own minority community so you'll all be minorities/majorities depending on how it works out.

Nonsense. I only agree on one point - "reverse" sexism, etc., is BS. There is no "reverse" about it - discriminating against someone because of which "group" they belong to is wrong. It is equally racist (or sexist, etc.) to make broad assumptions about whites, blacks, women, men, gays, straights, etc. Why do people see things in such black and white terms? Just because you are a member of an oppressed group, it does not give you carte blanche to do some oppressing yourself. Only through having dignity and showing class can we advance the image of women, for example, or blacks, or gays, or whatever. That means not being incredibly sexist or racist and then whining that you're oppressed yourself, so it doesn't "count".

1. There is no such thing as reverse racism. There is only racism and it's wrong no matter who the intended victim may be;
2. When you say that the "shoe is on the other foot," you are, of necessity, admitting that you think that white males are now having to endure both racism and sexism; neither of which should ever be condoned.
No one has to "give a few things up to help even things out." We need only live up to the promise of America, stop being a theoretical meritocracy and start being a meritocracy in practice.

They are not the majority now. But yes, I notice that some are screaming reverse racism. But my feelings are the same for the most part, they have had the favor for such a long time, so I can kind of understand how some may be so nervous. And for those who are, karma is a bytch ain't it?
