Getting him fixed is an excellent idea. I can't promise that it will stop the peeing, but it won't hurt.

It sounds like you need to start over on appropriate potty training with this dog.

    Yes, get him castrated.

You say he doesn't know right from wrong? Poor dog.

How do react when he pees in the house in front of you?

Do you let him out in garden as soon as he wakes, after food and several times a day, preferably leaving door open so he can get to garden if he wants?

Shouting, screaming, hitting him will just make him even more insecure, nervous and he will pee because he is afraid. That is ABUSE.

What your vet may have been saying is to ignore mistakes and praise him when he pees in garden.

Praise, praise, praise every time he goes in garden, stay with him. Don't just put him outside and hope for the best.

    Good Luck

Yes it is a great idea to get him fixed.

Is he doing this in the house?

This has been going on for five years? He needs training.

    edit:

    I agree with kpc.

The dog is marking his territory, make him feel secure and go for strict training, but do not be spiteful most male dogs can be trained to pee on command, but they can all hold back urine for scenting.how are you going to get him fixed ?fit a tap?

Getting him nuetered is supposed to help dogs from marking their territory.
