I hurt my dog's tail. what should I do?
I was leaning over to pet my dog and the rocking chair I was in pinched her tail. she yelped and now she is holding the end of her tail funny. I feel awful! but you can't break the tip of a dogs tail right? because it is only muscle. will it heal on its own or should we take her to the vet. she doesn't seem to be in any pain over it unless you mess with her tail.
I feel so bad.

Give her the night and if its still tender in the morning, you might want to take her to the vet. A dogs tail does have bones in it, so its possible to break or fracture it. If she's not in that much pain tho, I doubt its nothing more than a painful pinch. Goodluck!

Yes, she can break her tail - alought it's not really serious - because the tail isn't only muscle, it's a bony vertebra. The more he can do when you hurt his tail is just get a vertebra out of place.
To feel less bad, get down and stroke her calmly, and apolagize.By this way, she'll learn that you didn't do on porpuse.
I suggest taking her to the vet, right now.
Good luck to you and your dog's tail!

Yes, u can break a dogs tail. It may not be bone but it is hardened cartilage and it breaks. Please take the poor thing to the vet. a simple x-ray will tell u and it can be fixed hopefully.

a dogs tail is actually made from bone or i think its cartlidge, so you can break a dogs tail. which is what you may have done if its bent funny. take to your vet straight away.

I would take your dog to the Vet to be on the safe side. It may need a little cast to straighten it out. Oh, poor doggie

shes fine, it'll heal, i always accidently step on my dogs tail and all that.
I even once did almost the same thing you did. They always forgive you.

Best to call your vet, especially if she continues to wimper and seems to be in pain.
