anyone have thoughts on atlantis?

Though Atlantis has been written off as Plato's fictional conception of a utopia, modern evidence reveals it probably actually existed. If not as a utopia, it almost certainly existed as a civilization before the sumerians. before the egyptians. before the phoenecians. before any recoreded civilization. As well, connections have been made to a worldwide network of civilizations around the same time periods as Atlantis probably existed. These include Lemutia, present day Cambay in India, and many other sites along very specific latitudes, many of which are now covered by ocean. These sites extend even to the bahamas, with the discovery of a massive wall structure off the coast of Biminy. In short, more evidence of prehistoric high society exists today than many scholars thought could ever be collected, causing the archaeological world to reevaluate it's view of human origins. Though we prpbably will never know the whole story, we know much more today than we did even 40 or 50 years ago. Also, numerous disparate cultures from all parts of the globe have tales, myths, and legends about an ancient race of peoples escaping an aquatic catastrophe to find new settlement elsewhere on the globe. These stories have many commonalities, such as pale skinned men with beards and red or blonde hair, advanced locomotion, and even ships seaworthy enough to cross the Atlantic and pacific oceans. My questions are somewhat broad, but what i want to know is this: has anyone changed their mind due to recent evidence? What would this mean to us as a civilization. As a species? If somehow it could be proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the story of Noah, the epic of Gilgamesh, and other flood tales from all over the world were in fact all legendary accounts of what happened to atlantis as well as other sunken civilizations, does that offer further evidence of the bible's origin as an allegorical collection of writings rather than a "history" of the earth? How would christian fundamentalists defend the bible in that case?

I've known about the existence of Atlantis for quite some time. I remember the haunting visions from my early childhood in this life, of another time in another land, when the big rock walls fell down all around me and then everything went black. I have had other experiences in this life which confirm that She was real and that I lived and died there. I don't exactly know where Atlantis was but I do know it was a beautiful place. The scientific discoveries are only beginning to confirm what many have already known in their hearts.

As for the floods, there is bountiful geological evidence of cataclysmic floods and so in reality this theory can not be disputed. The stories (oral and written) from people across the world of ancients, unlike their own, coming into contact with their culture must be taken into serious account. It is not that hard to believe.

I would never consider the Bible to be a purely historical account. While certainly there are facts in the writings it is surely more of an "allegorical collection" and as such it would favor the Church to recognize it as such. For fundamentalists this is a challenge to their belief system, and for many turning a blind eye is certainly easier than accepting the truth. That is their problem and it does not impact me one bit.

In spite of my respect for Edgar Cayce, I don't believe Atlantis ever existed.

I think atlantis was an old civilization and some catastrophe happened and those people scattered to different places such as Egypt , North America etc. I also they must of had important knowledge that survived and spread different countries. Idk thats what i think.

I think it's very likely that Atlantis existed. =]
