Around 6-8 months is good to wait. If after that time, they do not stand up, you can try the tape method. I had to do this with one of my Bostons ear's because it kept flipping backward. I cut little triangles of mole skin (medical cushioned tape for your feet). You could also you the full tape method which you can find by googling "tape dog ears". There are lots of options but give them a chance to stand on their own first.

Hard to tell with a mixed-breed puppy. But most Bostons' ears start to come up around 10-12 weeks. They may not be very strong at that time and they may go back down then they shed their baby teeth. That's because getting the adult teeth places a drain on calcium (which is in the cartilage that makes the ears firm). After the adult teeth are in, though, the ears should be completely up.
If your dog gets to be about 12 weeks and the ears are not showing signs of coming up on their own then you can either
1. choose to love the dog with its cute floppy ears.
or
2. tape the ears to help them stand. This won't cause a genetically floppy ear to stand permanently, but it will help along an ear that is genetically programmed to stand.
Personally, with a mixed breed I'd just love the dog with the floppy ears. Boston puppies are just too cute with their floppy ears. BUT, if you want to try taping, here's a site that gives photos and directions:

This will be problematic if the dog has much hair inside the ears the way that some chihuahuas do. In that case, I'd skip the taping.

This is common with a dog who has had his ears surgically cropped. My Dane's ears did the same thing. The reason I was told is that in a puppy, it's ears are very soft cartilage. As they grow, their bodies are robbed of calcium & the ears can fall. Solution? My breeder had me take tampons (yes, I said tampons), take it out of the cover until you have just the cotton part. You then stick it on the inside of the ear (not deep inside the canal though) and then tape the ear. Leave it taped for awhile but make sure that you check frequently to make sure the ear doesn't become smelly because then that means it may have an infection. Don't be surprised if the ear falls a couple of time. Some dogs never have a problem, some have repeated problems. It's part of the growing process.

Not all chihuahua ear stand up. Your puppy may have floppy ears because of the mix.
