I can't take pictures with my nikon coolpix L18?

The lens is fine, and the screen goes on. But when I try to take a picture, I hold the button down and the flash light blinks red and the words display 1/60 f2.8. Then it just won't take a picture. The camera is not even 6 months old and has brand new batteries. Any suggestions how I could fix this?

Make sure you didn't disable the flash. There will be an icon with a lightning bolt and a circle around it with a slash across. If that doesn't work, you can try a reset of the camera. Go to Menu>Reset all and confirm (P.87 of the manual linked below). Then try taking a picture in green mode (full auto) in a dim room and see if the flash now works.

CallNikon at (800) NIKON-UX and see if they can help you.
