Does anyone have experience with having their jaw wired shut?

Can you brush your teeth? How bad does it hurt?

You can brush your teeth, but not nearly as well as normal. A water-pick is helpful. You will be a bit sore for a few days after, but during the procedure you either have heavy sedation or general anesthesia. It's not alot of fun and your diet is very limited while you are wired. Best of luck to you.

just got my jaw wired shut on tuesday!! VERY VERY painful for the first few days... vicadin helped! you can't brush your teeth though- just the outside. You're pretty much stuck with very strong mouthwash to get the job done. Also, food through straws. Milkshakes and smoothies and soups all through straws/syringes!
