Magic The Gathering: Champion keyword.?

I was just wondering how this situation would resolve: Say I have two creatures on the field, then I play a creature that has the Champion ability. Do I have to target a creature to champion? It doesn't say Target in the hint text. So if someone removed an elemental I said I was championing from the game, could I champion the other one instead?

How Champion works is, you play the creature with Champion as you would any normal creature. After your opponent has let that spell resolve, then as it's coming into play you choose a creature to remove.

So yes, if you played a creature, like Nova Chaser [champion an elemental], all you would have to do is just play it, and if your opponent was going to remove something, they'd have to do it before Nova Chaser resolved. If they removed one guy, but there was still another elemental to champion, you could still remove that one.

    Hope that helps. =]

As soon as you declare your championing a creature it automatically happens at the same time so your opponent can't respond like trying to get rid of it before you can champion. Like if you have a card that says champion a kithkin, it's pretty much a cost to get rid of the creature to play it. It happens instantly
