Is it safe for women to travel alone in Morocco?
I am an Australian considering travelling in Morocco with a few girlfriends at the end of the year. Is it safe/better to join a tour, or is it ok to travel alone? We only speak english.

You're gonna be fine. I met tons of girls in the train travelling alone in Morocco. They loved it. A tour could be really boring, but it could aslo be a good thing since it's your first time in Morocco. The secret is to be a smart traveller:
-Don't talk to strangers. If you're lost, talk to a cop maybe? or an owner of a restaurant or shop; they're cool. I'm not saying we're mean people or dangerous, we're nothing close to that, but better be safe.
-Don't wear revealing clothes. You can wear cleavage, that's fine, as long as it's not way too revealing.
-People might offer to help you, but you should be careful. I personally offer to help travellers because I don't want them dealing with someone who would ask for money in return and give a bad image of us Moroccans.
Morocco is a really safe place, especially for tourists. There are tons of laws over here that protects them (see how Morocco loves you?). What city are you visiting? if it's any place close to Essaouira, Marrakech or any other touristic place, then you've got nothing to worry about.

well...if i said its safe i'd be a lier, if i said it isn't i'd be a lier too.
If you're alone & you speak only English! you need at least someone who can translate to Arabic. + you have to have a knowledge of Moroccan money & prices, & yu need to watch out from hustlers...they're everywhere like flies.
a hustler won't take your hand bag & run away, no, he'll promiss a good placeto stay, cheap (supposedly cheap) proces for trips & food...etc.
back in 2006, in Asilah (north of the country) while we were going to a far beach through a valley (nature) way, my uncle & i came across 2 australian girls, they were lost & seemed to take the wrong way...we guided them & we were gonna take them to our restaurant (like any restaurant owner would do), but when we arrived , they met a hustler that they seem to already know, he talked to them a little...& then thy just went with him.
we figured out later that he badmouthed us & said we're kinda theives & stuff...
that's what hustlers do to own tourists.
But generaly, its not really that scary, it also depends on the city you're goin to...i'd play hustler on you if you're coming to Asilah lol :))
it's not really that dangerous, you just have to be a lil smart , & watch your bag & stuff well...thats it.
you also need to keep sure not to be alone in a far & empty area, like the beach in the early mornin, or natural areas in the border of the city...
But, you said "few girlfriends" ?? i guess if you're a bunch it would be better...i didn't suggest a tour because i see people on tours seem kinda tied or sth; not totally free to go wherever they want & do whataever they want.
Goodluck
PS: i'm here if you need infos about trains planes.
