From personal expirence what has been the best live Metal band you have ever seen?
And the worst?
Yeah I have read Phil Anselmo is a terrible Frontman.
And cool Metallica does not dissapoint I wish they would make it back to Pittsburgh,
Yes! I would never pay anything to see GNR Axl has ended shows over a coin being thrown on stage lol.

In my top 3 concerts ever, Metallica in '89 still tops 'em all. They still had that indie feel with the backline to put on a quality visual show. Plus they didn't skimp on the songs from ...And Justice for All as they do now.
I saw Iron Maiden perform at a small outdoor amphitheatre here shortly after Dickinson rejoined the band back in the 90s. Classic Maiden always had a strong following here & when they charged the stage to Aces High the whole place exploded like a bomb. The look on Steve Harris' face was one of disbelief as the crowd's mayhem probably looked to him as if he were reliving the height of the Powerslave days.
Worst:
Metallica during the Black Album tour was disappointing. Absolute worst was Van Halen just before the bitter breakup with Sammy Hagar. Hagar's voice was shot (as he admitted to, on stage!) & the song choices were pretty slowpaced. To this day its the only show I've ever walked out on from pure disgust.
By the by, since Motorhead on Ozzy's 1992 No More Tours tour was previously mentioned, when they made the stop here in San Antonio, for some reason Lemmy & Co. weren't on the stop. They were replaced by ....BLIND LEMON!?!?? You remember them: the 90s band with the whiney sounding singer who did a video with a chubby pre-adolescent girl dressed in a bee costume?
I swear I'd never heard louder cheers from a crowd as when the singer announced "this is our last song...."
Their whole set was peppered with "GET OFF THE STAGE!!!!"

BEST
Job For A Cowboy=2007 Vino's Pizza Little Rock, AR
(Despised Icon supporting. Only the strong survived that one)
And once again in 2008 at The Village in LR.
WORST
Motorhead=1992 No More Tours tour, Barton Coliseum Little Rock, AR
(They didn't play any of their "old" stuff, one of the guitars kept coming unplugged, and Lemmy was awful. Good thing Alice in Chains and Ozzy were to follow.)
Ironicly, Motorhead is one of the BEST acts I've ever seen live, if you count their show in 1983

Bring Me The Horizon is by far one of the best metal bands I have seen live. I have seen them 3 times and every time they were completely pumped and put on an amazing show. If you haven't listened to Bring Me The Horizon, check out the song Chelsea Smile. It is on their newest album called Suicide Season.
I don't know if I would really consider the Cancer Bats metal, but they have defintely put on an amazing show!!! Same with the band Protest the Hero. If any of these guys come to your town, go check them out. Seriously- these bands are better live then they are on their albums.
As for the worst, I would say.... well, Escape the Fate is pretty terrible live. (Though they arent metal). Also Emery isn't very good live.

Best I've seen was Chimaira at the 2004 Jagermeister Fest (Slipknot was the headliner - didn't have sh!t on Chimaira, though).
The worst was Type O Negative in 2004, in Houston, their sound was awful, the screeching feedback noises blared through the audience for the first 30 minutes of their show, we had to leave because it hurt our ears & heads so bad. TERRIBLE.
Also, at the 2004 Jagermeister, Fear Factory disappointed me very badly.
I heard from friends that Soulfly and Sepultura were both great live.

Between the Buried and Me was incredible the two times I saw them play, note for note and everything...they are amazing. The Black Dahlia Murder was great, too, I am not even a massive fan but they were the most surprisingly great live band I saw. As for the worst, there was some sucky local band that I saw that had a fan pig squeal the vocals for the second half of the set, and the music was utter uncreative garbage with the same breakdown in every song. I don't even try and bother to remember their name but me and a few friends who don't play instruments could have made better music.

We'll See Our Mary Again "Marking the entrance to the valley of the Great Salt Lake and standing as a sentinel pointing the way, is located "This Is the Place" monument. Here is featured Brigham Young—his back turned to the privations, hardships, and struggles of the long desert way, his outstretched arm pointing to the valley of precious promise. . . ."That first trek of 1847, organized and led by Brigham Young, is described by historians as one of the great epics of United States history. Mormon pioneers by the hundreds suffered and died from disease, exposure, or starvation. There were some who, lacking wagons and teams, literally walked the 1,300 miles across the plains and through the mountains, pushing and pulling handcarts. In these groups, one in six perished."For many, the journey didn't begin at Nauvoo, Kirtland, Far West, or New York, but rather in distant England, Scotland, Scandinavia, or Germany. . . ."Between the safety of home and the promise of Zion stood the angry and treacherous waters of the mighty Atlantic. Who can recount the fear that gripped the human heart during those perilous crossings? Prompted by the silent whisperings of the Spirit, sustained by a simple yet abiding faith, they trusted in God and set sail on their journey. Europe was behind, America ahead."On board one of those overcrowded and creaking vessels of yesteryear were my great-grandparents, their tiny family, and a few meager possessions. The waves were high, the voyage long, the quarters cramped. Tiny Mary had always been frail, but now with the passage of each day, her anxious mother saw the little one becoming weaker. She had a serious illness. There was no neighborhood drugstore, no doctor's prescription, no modern hospital—just the steady roll of the tired old ship. Day after day worried parents watched for land, but there was none. Soon, Mary could not stand. Lips that were too weak to speak trembled with silent but eloquently expressed wonderment and fear. The end drew near. Little Mary peacefully passed beyond this veil of tears."As family and friends crowded around on the open deck, the ship's captain directed the service; and that precious, ever-so-small body, placed tenderly in a tear-stained canvas, was committed to the angry sea. Her strong father, in emotion-choked tones, comforted her grieving mother, repeating, ' "The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." (Job 1:21.) We'll see our Mary again!' " Thomas S. Monson, "Come, Follow Me," Ensign, July 1988, 2, 4 Topics: Sacrifice, Testimony

Yo Dude.......
teh top 2 live acts I have seen, are not so coincedentally, my two fave Metal bands.
But... one of the big reasons I am SUCH a huge fan of Iron Maiden and Metallica is they have consistently put out GREAT, stadium shaking concerts.
Not gonna lie, both went through a rough patch in the 90s, Maiden from having a crappy singer, Metallica form having lost their joy in music, but having seen both in very recent memory ( literally within th elast year ) I can say BOTH have got it back.
And even though they are commercial GLAM... I gotta admit, KISS, in full makeup, might be mediocre music... buit the Show is something else.
as for the worst.......
Dragon Force and Slipknot. Sorry.. tehses bands are so full of themselves its ridiculous, and they cant even play intime live. seen DF once, and Slipknot twice ( neitehr were the reason I was there ) and both wer just god awful.
The next of the list would be DOWN. Sorry, but whilee I revere Pantera, Phil is a burned out idiot junkie whose Idea of a stage show is dropping F-bombs every second word and constantly beating himself inthe head with his Mic.
That might impress a 14 year old... but not me.

Possibly Queensryche. It's hard for me to pick a best because I've enjoyed the ones I've seen so much. Dio puts on an awesome show and I love his voice. Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were all great when I saw them as well. Maiden (in the 80's - Powerslave tour) and Priest (at Ozzfest) probably had some of the best stage shows as far as props and costumes. Ozzy can be kind of hit or miss as far as Sabbath goes but when I saw them, Tony Iommi was da bomb.

I love Slayer. Lamb of God does a good one too. But I saw Static X awhile back a believe it or not they put on a hell of a show. Back in the day no one could beat a ringside seat at a GWAR show hahaah
