Going black can ber really risky. It is going to make his room really dark so if there isn't a lot of light coming in the room I would steer away from it personally. What if you compromised with him and did a dark blue or Charcoal grey. Always remember you are the parent and he is only 13 so if you don't care then let him.

Some things just dont make sence, and he wont see this for several years. It is your house also, and I bet black dosnt work for you[or emotianally]....and if he was honest....dosnt work for him either....it is jjust a phase, a dark one he needs to bypass. There are so many other colours that are 'kewl' for a kid, that dont make a huge negative statement....howbout navy blue, dark grey, dark tan...? Dark, but not morbid. It is ok to set limits and say 'No', "but how bout another colour?' "Lets find something we can agree on". It is important he learns of your feelings also, and feels for you...just as you are considering and working with his!
How else is he gonna learn this?

This would not be ok in my house. I would not allow black walls. Suggest a medium grey colour and black bedding and accents...white ceiling and trim...it will look really sharp and mature....or just do it and surprise him...he will love it I am sure...and if you want other colours, you can add a small amount of red or blue in there.

If that's ok with you. It is your house so you get to make the final decision.
There's really nothing wrong with it. Though it is possible he is heading towards the emo....

Painting a room black will make it seem smaller, and it has been shown to lead to bad moods in adolescents.

warn him that the room will be significantly darker that way. Make sure it's not a phase or anything, and that he'll want to repaint it to a "nicer" colour in a few years

If he's willing to paint it what could it hurt. Kids need freedom to make their own decisions.
