Bad Friend-zone Habit?
I have a problem with women, whenever I talk to them either one of two things happen, I become a great friend who has to listen to all their emotional problems or boy issues. Or we totally yell at each other until we don't talk anymore. What is the best way to maintain that balance between caring and not caring? (I don't want to become a close friend, but i also don't want to be an asshole to them.)
Basically, what should I be talking to them about and how do I make it known that I am only interested in a romantic relationship without coming off as a wuss?

Umm, first you said "(I don't want to become a close friend, but i also don't want to be an asshole to them.)..."
and then you said:
"...how do I make it known that I am only interested in a romantic relationship ..."
Do you want to be "not so close" friends or do you want a romantic relationship with this person?
If you want to start a relationship with someone then talk to them for a few minutes to see if you even have anything remotely in common. If so then just say " Hey are you involved with anyone?" That quest. right there lets any woman know what your intentions are - no wussyness about it.
If you've dated a girl a few times and just want to remain "on good terms" and not BFF than just don't be available so much. Don't answer every call, be busy on the weekends when invited out with her and her "boyfriend" du jour. Keep your friendship with her limited to "group" outings with her and her friends and you bring one of yours. If she insists on calling to talk about things you're not interested in knowing then just say, "uh,yeah ______ , I'm really not interested in hearing about this because I am unable to help. Don't you have a girlfriend you can call?"
She'll give you that 'ol "oh I need a mans perspective.." and then...
EVERY SINGLE ANSWER TO ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS SHOULD BE:
"I DON'T KNOW" or 'I HAVE NO IDEA."
Said calmly but firmly and repeatedly.
If she's not too thick she'll catch on after just one of those phone conversations.
If you want a relationship with someone you shouldn't be wasting so much time being "friends" with other women much less listening to their boyfriend problems. There's only so much of you to go around, and time spent with people like her takes away time that you could and should - quite literally - be happily spending looking for your new girlfriend.
