Why do young girls post pics of themselves on YA asking to rate their looks?

Because they have low self esteem and need others to call them pretty before they believe they are pretty even though everyone else has different taste, e.g some people think kate moss is stunning while others think she's really ugly.

It's really sad how people think the most important thing in life is to be pretty and nothing else, what about a good personality ? Being polite ? Having a good sense of humour, but no it's all about having the right tan and nails.

I agree to some extent that appearance is important but not too the extreme where it's all you think about.

I have no idea, I worry about the kind of pressure my daughter will face when she gets older, she's only 3 now. It's crazy because you see some 13 yr olds asking questions like that, and I'm sorry I wasn't worried about stuff like that at that age. Little girls think they need to look like the women on t.v. and in magazines to be accepted.

Parents most likely don't know. They do it because maybe someone at school made them feel down about their looks or they are just looking for the attention when they already know that they are good looking. It's like they want to share their beauty with everyone to get the compliments.

Yeps, girls need approval from everyone and anyone, they like to be complemented and most people on here only say nice things when they answer questions like that.

If you ask a friend then they will say nice things because they don't want to hurt your feelings. If you want an honest opinion then it's best to ask people on the internet.

It would be ironic for me to say its wrong because I have done it too (but I'm not a girl), but I stopped doing it because its pathetic, but even if I did I wont have to worry about predators because I have a rifle.

I have seen pictures where the girl is pretty much photoshopped!

Their parents probably dont know.

Most parents don't know that they are doing it. I know my parents did it when I went through that phase. All it is, to get told that you are pretty so you just feel that much better about yourself.

b/c they have low confidence and want to see if other people think they're pretty.

also, the people who answer are strangers so i guess they think it's ok since no one (probably) knows them

also could be the media telling them what's attractive and what's not...

or they're bored idiots :p
