do i have to cook egg whites?

im not making meringue, just cream to put on an already cooked cake. is it possible just to make the cream and add sugar to the mix to serve as icing?

    I use egg whites in my sugar cookie icing so that when it dries it hardens. I don't know that I would add a lot of egg whites to a cake icing because it will form a crust but if that's what you want then do it. There is a slight chance of salmonella though. Michael's and Walmart sell a powdered egg white product that works great and is safe to use.

    If you're making a cream just to put on a cake don't make one with egg whites make one with a whipping cream base.

    Right, if you're not making meringue you won't be needing the egg whites.
