SIMS 2 VS SIMS 3!!! BIRTHDAY DILEMMA!?
Okay, here is the thing. This Saturday, is my best friend's birthday party, and she is turning sixteen. As a gift, I bought her a necklace (thin chain with music note), and The Sims 2 Apartment Life. She had all the other Sims 2 expansions, and I THOUGHT that she mentioned something about wanting this one. So after I bought her gift, I was already starting to worry that it might be too.... juvenile for a sixteenth birthday. Then a few days ago, Sims 3 came out, and I am hearing really mixed reviews for it. Some say it's amazing, and others say it sucks. I asked her about it subtly, and she said that while she was quite curious to try Sims 3 and that it looks awesome, she still loves her Sims 2 at heart. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!
Here are the three options I have come up with:
A: Stick with original gift (necklace and apartment life)
B: Keep necklace, and by Sims 3
C: Keep necklace, keep apartment life, but stick money in the card so that if she did indeed want Sims 3, she could go and return AL (gift receipt), use that money, and the money I gave her to buy Sims 3.(Can you even do that?) UGH I AM GOING CRAZY!
Any advice would be MUCHO appreciated :D.
PS: I know that I must sound really strange, but I just want her to really like my gift, everyone else's gifts sound so good, and I am hr closest friend, so I feel the need to outdo almost :P.
Thanks to everyone who answered my question :). But as much as I would have liked to have bought Sims 3, due to time and money restrictions, I was not able to. I'll just have to hope she can cope with apartment life, at least for now :P.
Cheers :D

B. The sims 3 is amazing and if you dont like the sims 3 i dont know how. I mean really if someone doesnt like the sims 3, they probably dont like ANY of the sims.

Good, stick with the sims 2 for now. I just played about 6 hours of it. EA is being pretty lazy and greedy and with the sims3. Good idea with the extra traits and free roam, but Sims 3 has very little content to begin with. 1 starting town i believe. Character customization is good (except for faces) but they didnt include alot of clothing content or furniture. They put it in their store for sale.
Also you dont really feel like your playing god because EVERYONE ages as you play the game. Actually you can create two families and have one suddenly die or leave town as you control the other. You're suppose to be able to turn this off but its bugged right now :(. Theirs a ton of flaws in this games. Wait for the patches and maybe an expansion to arrive before getting this.

If i were u i would choose the first option. even though sims 3 seems cool and fun there is not that much of a difference to sims 2. Sims 3 has better graphics and more customization and advance things but most computers cant even play sims 3 smoothly without lag, laptops cant that's for sure so just stick with your first option.

Well, the probability that her computer can run the Sims 3 is slim. If she has a laptop, then forget about buying her The Sims 3, cause she wont be able to play it.
I would go with the original gift, as in Plan A.

first, make sure her computer can run sims 3, lots of people are reporting graphics and install and just general running of the game issues. I think it would be sad if you got the sims 3 and found it won't work on her computer.
I got the sims 3 yesterday, although the game play is fun, the graphics are not the best, and its full of glitches.
