How do you get photos off of an unformatted media disk?

I tried to use an external media disk reader on my MacBook but then when I put the disk back in my digital camera, it asked me to reformat the disk. If I format the disk I'll lose all my pictures.

    Sounds like you need to use a recovery program to get your photo's off the memory card then reformat it.

    Here's one, that comes free with many of their memory cards, but if you want to just download it I think they charge, there are plenty of freeware equivalents though (mostly for the PC). http://www.sandisk.co.uk/Products/ProductDetails.a...

    My guess is that your MAC didn't like the (PC type compatible) format the card was already in and tried to change it to something it did like, mangling the file system in the process.

    Copy your pix with the external reader & save them somewhere before doing anything. Then reformat the dig cam disk.
