Birthday gift idea for a Dad?

So, my dad's birthday is coming up and I have no idea what to get him and I have been procrastination. He loves sailboats and sailing. Loves his Iphone and anything to do with computers. Also loves movies and weird gadgets. Only thing is I don't want to buy him anything for his Iphone since he does it already, don't think he wants anymore computer junk, not sure of the exact movies he likes and he buys 6 a week already and I haven't found a good store in the bay area for wacky gadgets.

Can anyone please please please help me? Suggest a gadget store in the bay area (SF to San Jose and anywhere in between). Or just suggest a gift idea and I'll try to find it. Grr. I'm frustrated! lol. Oh and, no gift cards. The sparkle of getting one year older dies when he sees a plastic card. :(

lol, Thanks a bunch!

Have you got a nice photo from him for example while sailing? Then you could get a painting made in oil or other art types http://www.paintyourlife.com/

They also do printed photos which are a bit cheaper

Gadget wise I have no idea - I love my DS though.

Oh what about a day out on a nice big sailing boat? Have a look in your local area if there is a place to hire a sailing boat for a day.

Your dad sounds like a man after my own heart. Having been a dad for over 20 years with three kids, I can tell you a few places I love getting gifts from :)

Fry's Electronics, at 550 E Brokaw Rd, San Jose, CA 95112, will have a lot of great things. They are my superstore, having a wide variety of strange gadgets as well as movies and computer stuff (if you end up choosing to go that route.)

Does he have an Ipod? If not, that may be an idea. Personally, I have been loving a gift I got from my son Dylan. He got me a Wii gaming system with "Wii Fitness" to help me lose some weight. I lost 14 pounds! Haha!

www.woot.com is also a great place to find wacky gadgets. They have a lot of sales, so keep an eye out!

I hope this helps. God bless.

Forget the gadgets and the ordinary this year. Surprise him with something that might make him laugh and maybe even shed a little tear. Give him the gift of your time by taking him somewhere and enjoying each other's company. Start off with something like this instead of the normal greeting card:

Instead of buying something why don't you treat him to something. Objects take up space while quality time gives memories to the heart. Why not take him sailing, and then finish up with lunch, or ice cream mmmm. Or take him to c a movie of his choice maybe at an IMAX theater then to lunch or dinner. A meal after an event gives you time to talk about how much fun you had or what you thought of the movie

If he likes sailing you could get him a clock or a lighter with a picture of a big boat or the ocean on it, even a personalized wrist watch could work for that

Why don't you get him a HUGE sailboat model? Might put you back a bit, but he'd love that!

    Something like this,

you can get him an old, film single lens reflex (SLR) camera for a different kind of gadget to have fun with. especially when its not digital camera and a film camera, he'll certainly can't wait to send his film to a developing center to see his photos.
