If you have a warm air humidifier/diffuser, this would be a great time to use it...if not, take little man to the bathroom and let the shower run hot and steaming, then sit in the steam with him (on the side of the tub is best) for as long as you both can stand it. With a dry cough, keeping the air moist is the best help, so however you can do that, do it. If you're running your air conditioning a lot, it dries the air out horribly so you may want to turn it down a notch or two as well. If he starts running a fever, he needs to see the doctor, and do NOT take no for an answer. Hope this helps.

I am a mom and I have been through this enough to know that "pain reliever" is "not" what your baby needs. There are cough supressants that can help the coughing problem, which are "safe" for your baby. The problem is that there are ignorant people whose lack of reading skills caused serious issues with respect to decongestants/cough meds for babies/children. I would find another doctor if your son has been coughing for a long time and no remedy other than "it will go away" is being suggested! Yes, it will go away, but it's very painful to the throat and chest to continue to cough.

Unfortunately you are where I was at a few weeks ago. It seems to never go away, takes forever. You are doing everything right and you cant give your bub anything even cough medicine is out of the question until your bub is 2 (even then I havent used it)

I just make sure my 2 yr old is warm, comfortable and resting well. Sleep helps them. My son actually had asthma diagnosed this year so that answered alot of questions, so ask about that.

Source(s): AD ON: we found using our vapouriser did nothing for his cough and my doctor said not to use it as it really only helps a blocked nasal passage but each doctor is different. We find using our vapouriser brings up all his mucas resulting in him throwing up (the worst thing in the world). Also I know this wont fix the problem at all but we have a piece of cloth (an cloth nappy never used of cause) called a sicky and he has that when he is sick as a comforter and he asks for it now so we know he is getting sick or has a sore throat when he asks for it.

He needs something after six days! If the cough is non-productive (which it is if it is dry) or keeping the baby up at night, he needs medicine. Get a different doctor. Any baby cough syrup should do but being as young as he is, I would get a doctor to advise you as to what.
