Yes, some dogs become frightened of storms. Dogs can sense pressure changes in the air better than we can and often know when a storm is on it's way before we do. Fear of storms is a behavior that can worsen year after year. The best thing you can do is try not to feed into it too much by making a big fuss over her. If you get all excited, make a big deal out of it, pay extra attention to her and say "it's okay, it's okay, it's okay", then that can actually make the anxiety worse because she'll think there is actually something to fear. You can try to distract her in advance by playing with her with her favorite toy or offering treats, that way a storm becomes a positive experience. There are also recordings of thunderstorms you can buy and start playing during calm weather to try to desensitize her to the sounds. Start with the volume low and slowly increase it over days and weeks, each time offering her toys/ treats to make it a positive experience. It takes some time, but it really can help. If the phobia becomes extreme, there are several drugs your veterinarian can prescribe to help, along with behavior modification techniques. I would recommend addressing this fear sooner than later because, as a mentioned earlier, it tends to worsen year after year and will only become more difficult to change.

Yeah, my dog got a little scared when he heard rain for the first time. Don't worry about it. If she's still like that after it stops, it makes me think she might be sick. Dogs tend to hide and act strange when they're sick.

some dogs are really freaked out by rain. my friends dads dog would run under his bed and not come out until the storm had stopped. however most dogs aren't.

i am not sure. try pulling her out from under the chair, and snuggle her. some dogs have an instinct to be afraid of rainstorms, some don't. she should be fine when the storm passes. remember, she WILL come out from under the chair!!!!

They sense the chemical changes in the air.
Don't do anything than get on with what you are doing. If you pick her up and cuddling you will be enforcing the fear and she won't get over it. Be calm and natural and she will see that it is nothing to get worried about.
