why is the floor of my car on the driver side front always wet?

No matter what the weather, the driver side front is always wet. And, is there anything that I can do about it. The car is in good shape other than that. I worry that if I put down new carpet, it will get in the same situation as the previous carpet. What is causing this??

Three possible answers: 1st is a windshield that isn't completely sealed and it leaks during rain or when the dew settles on it at night. 2nd, although usually on the passenger front, would be a leaking heater core. Does the carpet smell of anti-freeze? Finally, although again usually on the passenger side, is the hose that drains the moisture out of the air conditioner has slipped off the drainage tube. If so, the carpet will get wet all the way to the low point in the car's floor.

Regardless, when you clean the floor and carpet, be sure there is no residual mold and mildew, for health reasons.

    Hope this helps!

How to Fix a Heater Core Leak

    By Shelley Moore, eHow Editor

The heater core functions as a mini-radiator to bring heat into the vehicle's interior as the heater and defroster fan blows air across it. When heater cores go bad, they leak antifreeze onto the floor of the front passenger area. Replacing a bad heater core is a complicated do-it-yourself project, and having a mechanic do the work costs several hundred dollars. You can work around the eventual replacement if you cannot afford a new one and need a temporary fix.

Sounds like a leaking heater core to me. That's the only way your problem can happen. Unless someone is pouring water into your car when you are not looking.

Witness estimates regarding speed are not even remotely reliable. I have never once had a lay witness correctly estimate speed - so I wouldn't put too much stock in what speed the witness reported the driver was going. You would be entitled to your actual damages (all of your out of pocket expenses). You would also probably be likely to receive triple the amount of the medical bills as pain and suffering. Your fear about crossing the road is not realistic or logical - at 38 years old I assume you have three decades of crossing roads all by yourself without any incidents, so it is not remotely reasonable that you could develop a reasonable fear over one incident particularly as you were not even seriously injured. The fact that your four year old could have been killed IF you had brought her with you is also irrelevant. The counter argument could be that perhaps you would have been paying closer attention to your surroundings if you'd had the stroller. "What if" is never a legitimate basis for a legal argument. So, if you think you have a basis to get money for emotional distress - you don't. Your pre-existing medical issues will creat big problems for you in trying to get a settlement over this. Her insurance company/attorney will use it to argue that your medical bills and issues are inflated because of your existing issues - she would not be responsible for ANY damages associated with your current issues. Considering that you weren't seriously injured you should make sure your expectations regarding a future settlement are very reasonable.

there are a few possibilities those already listed and also there are rubber grommets on the firewall that allow for wiring to pass through to the interior of the vehicle there is a chance that on of these have popped out into the engine bay or into the interior of the car you can pull the carpet back from up by the pedals an check for this problem also be sure to look up behind the dash on the firewall.

We bought a brand new car and had the same problem on the passengers side. Took it in several times and the dealer always said there was nothing wrong with the car.

Then one day I was washing the car in one of those do it yourself places and my wife was with me. She started to scream while I was washing it. When the water went down the windshield there was a leak. Water was funneling into the car.

Funny thing was when I took it back to the dealer with this information, he told me not to wash the car. I asked him what do I do when it rains? Dealers can be so stupid. Anything to save a buck and pass it at the same time. :)

If the floor is wet with anti-freeze it is most likely the heater coil. Anti-freeze comes in a variety of colors now a days, but they all have a very distinct odor.
