Am I the only one with an inability to learn a second language like Spanish?
None of the the recommendations work, and I have gotten hundreds over the years. I really think that my brain rejects the notion that a second language is trying to come on board. I do not want more books, more tapes, or more anything for that matter. I want the language, and I want it now! Do I need to go to a Mexican prison and be forced to learn? Maybe, I need to become a male prostitute in Latin America in order to learn a few phrases. Then again, I am surely not that desperate! I have lived in South Texas for 20 years mostly for the purpose of acquiring the Spanish Language. I left the State but moved back to El Paso. I wish I was around Puerto Ricans, for they have a way of motivating me. When I was very young, they always encouraged me and NEVER mocked or embarrassed me. It is not that way in South Texas.

You do not have an inability to learn. Your circumstances have created an affective filter, which means that you have come to associate learning the language with stress. When you are stressed, it is very difficult to learn, and God knows South Texas can be very stressful, with the mocking and the embarrassing and the racism. Your impatience and frustration create more stress, so it becomes a vicious circle. Is there any way you can take a vacation in Puerto Rico? I agree with you that they are very kind and comfortable people to be around. It would make a huge difference in your language study.

That might make matters too complicated. In the North, only a few humans talk Spanish. French might generally make extra experience within the North on account that we border French Canada. But many humans within the South talk Spanish. Now we are entering being a country of 3 languages. English is all we'd like formally. Anything else is overly tricky.

if you are that determined to learn spanish then try immersing yourself in the language. Like, watch Spanish language channels on tv, buy and READ spanish newspapers and magazines, on cable sometimes you can change the settings if the movie has [sap] from english to spanish. and find spanish speaking friends who are willing to talk to you in SPANISH and help/correct you and keep it real if your pronunciation is not all that hot lol
