I would do a savings bonds, it sits their and collects interest and it will end up adding up.

I would suggest ING (www.INGdirect.com). It's an online savings account. That's what I use for my savings account; hubby uses it, too. Our 3-year old son has his savings account there, as well. The interest is usually higher than a traditional savings account because there isn't the same over-head that a bricks and mortar bank has.
ING will link to your regular checking account, so it is easy to electronically transfer money to and from your child's account, if necessary.

Personally what I would suggest that we plan on doing, is turning them into savings bonds. They can accumulate a lot of interest over time, which will turn into more money for him!
