I think the ivey will choke out the roses and kill them, we need advice

Ivy will choke out the rose. If she must have it in her garden, plant it somewhere where it cannot get near plants. And do not plant it near the house as it can cause damage to the walls.

If left unfettered, yes, it can outcompete most roses. Keep it clipped back from the plants.
One thing to watch for... ivy's commonly a really good place to find small mammals, and they have been known to kill roses by ringing the bark during the winter. Good snake habitat, too.
I live where it's a bad weed, so it's "pull on sight" here. On the other hand, where winter knocks it back pretty hard (like Fargo or Duluth), it might be more easily contained.

Ivy will choke out anything- even trees. It also is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Get rid of it all.
